The bite indicators where flying off the rods like popcorn in a popcorn machine. Lure fisherman where reporting limits in a couple of hours to an hour of work. Trolling was so good it only took one pass to get a limit. That where some of the phrases I heard today when I showed up at 11am to work this morinng. Guys where coming up and buying 2nd and even 3rd limit passes to continue fishing. Some long time customers said this was the best opener they have ever experinced!
Defintley the hot bait today was Garlic Powerbait, Chrt Powerbait, Thomas Bouyants, and any type of minnow plug trolled behind a boat or kayak. A lot of stocker sized 1-3lb fish where caught and limits where in fact the rule today. However some big fish did make there way up to the scales as well.
Daniel Michel of Pico Rivera weighed in a beautiful 9.6 Rainbow while fishing a Rainbow Atomic Tube from the West Shore.

John Struckman "Johnsfishing" of Fullerton trolled up this 7.10 Rainbow while trolling mid lake. John was trolling a Thomas Bouyant when the big Salamonid bit.

John and his dad, Glenn also managed to get double limits!

Mike Traut of Costa Mesa also got in on the big fish action with a 7.6 taken while trolling a Needlefish also at mid lake.

David Sandoval weighed in this very respectable 4.5 Brown Trout that ate a chr powerbait while fished in the Flats.
