Hi All
Late post, this was our 5th annual 5 Day Father & Son Trip on the Polaris Supreme.
Took FishyBoy and went on our 5th annual trip last month. Leaving June 16th out of Fisherman’s Landing, San Diego Ca. The morning was beautiful, clear and sunny, not a bit of wind to be found. Like a High School reunion we slowly gathered along the boardwalk, many of the kids have become friend from previous trips, and kept in touch via e-mail and phone.
As the title says-Father & Son Trip, it should really say Father and Son and Daughter trip as the ladies were represented on board as well. After getting settled, the boat set off for bait, and then south to the Tuna ground, ending at Benito’s and Cedros Islands.
On the way to get bait, contests and raffles were explained along with an explanation of our itinerary. As we pulled up to the bait dock, our charter master Larry Brown explained that there would be a prize for the first fish caught by a kid on the trip. I noticed that FishyBoy was nowhere to be found, then looked up to see this-

Needless to say, FishyBoy had the prize nailed before we even left the harbor!
The rest of the day was uneventful, getting tackle ready, catching up with old friends, watching movies, relaxing. We did stop on a paddy or 3 and had wide open yellowtail fishing for about 30 minutes a stop. That night we enjoyed a fabulous dinner of steak and sea food along with some really fine wines.
The next day we started the trolling rotation and trolled our way south west. We picked up a bonito, and a few tuna, but only on the troll that night we anchored on Benito’s and ate, fished and slept.

The morning started before 4AM with Yellowtail on board……………..We fished till 11 then headed toward Cedreos Island---with Seals in tow.
From the time of arrival and for the next 36 hours it was some of the most phenomenal yellowtail fishing I have ever witnessed. We had fish to 60+ lbs, and a consistent grade of 35-45 Lb fish.
I had my personal best with a 50LB Yellowtail at 4AM; NOTHING wakes you up, and beats you down like a 50 LB Yellow at 4AM! The seals were st6ill a nuisance, but the fishing----we had two White Sea Bass in the 50LB range, and a 35LB Halibut taken on the iron.
In between the fishing we were treated with Alaskan king crab legs for snacks and Shrimp Volcano. At one point when the fishing lulled, FishyBoy decided to become “one with the bait….

The next morning we fished till 11 then set out for the Tuna grounds. We found the right temperature, and temp break, great water, but the long fins had not yet arrived. As we headed up the line we continued to rotate troll, and picked up some Yellowfin, and a couple of Albacore. Later at a large Kelp Patty we scored more tuna, yellowtail, and much to everyone’s surprise an OPAH on Mega Bait!
It was—as always a great trip…we were a bit early for the tuna this year, but the yellowtail fishing was superb.
Sorry about the long post-but hey it was a 5 day trip!
