I'm not surprised at all. How in the heck do you get the fish up in the wilderness of the San Juans otherwise!
That area out of Ouray Co. is absolutely spectacular. The ride from Durango to Ouray (the 550 hwy thru Silverton) is stunning, and chock full of runoffs, creeks, rivers and small lakes that are replete with all kinds of trout, kokanee and splake (well at least one that I know has them).
IMO, you haven't really experienced troutfishing, until you've fished Colorado.
