Been fishing El Cap pretty regularly. I have no other options at the moment, (time plus $) and with nothing happening at Slowtay and Hodges (for the crappies). Man, I really miss San V. I've said it more than a few times. Like they always say...you don't "really" miss a good thing until its gone. :Bawling:
Anywho...
Yesterday I did the same routine and went for the crappies off the bat. Got to hit them before the sun is on the water because after that...if they are biting at all...your chances are slim. Trolled jigs around hard and it was on the slower side. A few scattered schools in which you had the opportunity to get "doubles" but bites were far and in-between.

The few die harders out there reported the same. Only thing you can do is cover water trolling and drifting and hopefully come across an aggressive bunch.

Caught some, but after a few drifts when the wind came up late morning, decided to switch gears and see if the gill wanted to play. The reports lately were that they had slowed...but ya never know till you try for yourself. I found the first twig I could tie on to in 20 ft of water and set up shop.

Nothing for the first 15 min or so...but prior experience advised to stay put as it seem like these buggers would almost find you. Sure enough it started. First bobber went down. 10 minutes after that...wide open. Mealworms did the most damage out of them, crawlers & wax.
Culled the smaller models until it was time to cut. Left them still biting.
End results
