Jaysuuun and I headed out to HH at around 6:30am, and we were in the water by around 7. We knew the tide wasn't so great but we were hoping the overcast and slight fog would work to our advantage.
We were wrong.
A couple of nibbles was all we got for the first hour and a half.
Then Jason hooked up with a small sandie near some docks (not pictured cauz it was too dinky for his liking).
About an hour later, I was happy to get 2 in a row!

We were sure things would start to pick up.
Again, we were wrong.
We fished Simple Green and along PCH towards the bridge for nada.
Jason had been using a swimmie and I was on the DS, hoping one of us would get lucky.
Another hour and a half went by with just a few tiny nibbles.
Finally, I managed to hook up with this little guy near the bridge.

My VERY FIRST CALICO!!! I was so excited, I was jumping up and down in our little inflatable, lol. Nearby hali hunters on the other side of the bridge thought I had a big one but they were probably laughing at my tiny little fish. I don't care, it was my first one so I was happy!
Anyway, Jason switched up to the DS since things were really slow and he mananged to hook another turd roller (not pictured. I wanted to take these pictures but he just wanted to fish. Typical, haha).
Of course, we got our hopes up once again that things were picking up.
Wrong again.
3 hours went by with nothing to show for it.
Went around and made our way back to Simple Green.
As we were wondering where all the halis were, Jason caught 2 short flatties in a row.
Tide started going out and finally finally, things started picking up.
For real this time!

Look what was in this hali's mouth! Had to take a pic.

Jason's very first calico too! He didn't jump up and down like an idiot though.

I hooked another flattie then another calico!!

Man, I was so happy I could've gone home satisfied...
But I'm SO glad we didn't.
After getting bite after bite and making up for the sucky morning, I got a nice surprise.
Fishing near the bridge, we got stuck on some of the rocks and debris down there.
For like the 4th or 5th time, I was snagged pretty good.
I gave it a big HEAVE.
It moved a little, very slowly, but I was able to pull it up.
Almost.
When I was just about to see what I was snagged on that was weighing down my line... zzzzZZZZZZ!! BENDO!!!
Holy crap I wasn't ready for that, lol.
After a few minutes I worked him up to the top and Jason, boga in hand, called out, "LEGAL!!"
With that, the fish ran again.
This happened about 4-5 times, me bringing him to the top and him fighting his way back down.
Of course he tired himself out and Jason boga-ed his butt (no pun intended).
Our only goal was to get him in the boat. Success!!

Legal indeed! My 2nd!! You better believe I was jumping up and down again, this time yelling and screaming too... Mike Iaconelli style. LOL! Drew a little attention from the nearby fishermen again, but this time it was justified. Yeah baby!!!! I HAD to take some shots with him...

Then he was safely released to recover and fight another day.

WHEW!!! What a rush! So much fun.
After that, the bite slowed down again but of course, Jason was able to catch the last fish of the day.

Headed home around 3pm. After a disappointing start, we went home happy.
Of course, Jason's hating a little cauz he hasn't caught a legal yet...
hopefully Wingnut can help us out with that someday. LOL!
