I would like to thank all of you that showed up . It was a fun day fishing and hanging out together . It was really nice that Nessie Hunter showed up even when he was still under the weather. I enjoyed meeting you Frank and hope to fish with you out that way again sometime .

A group of 12 to 13 people showed up for todays fishing event.

It started out nice and Proxy Boggards was the hot stick and by 11:30 AM had 3 trout. I decided to call the event at that time and declair Wes the winner. When Troutoholic & I left the lake at 1 PM Wes had 4 trout. TroutDog had 2 at that time. I let Trout Dog figure out who won the $$$ on the side pot. He will be posting photos and the winner tomorrow.

We got some good photos of the day and others will be posting them up when they can in the next few hours till tomorrow. Please come back and check them out.

I also incourage the others to post up their take on the day.

The trout at Jess Ranch are REALLY nice trout !!! I will be back for sure.

I did get the skunk on the trout . Just before I packed it in I had a bite and set the hook. It was a Plactic set up ( Timster special ) and the fish took me down the shore. ( Sorry Fred for taking out both of your lines. ) It was on my 5 ' kencor ultra light rod and I thought I had a whopper. It took line a few times and when I got it close to shore it turned out to be a nice CATFISH !!! It was about 3 1/2 pounds give or take a few oz. I had beat the skunk. I was blown away that CATFISH ate my trout set up . Fred, ( 2 Quicks friend ) had a nice CATFISH on power bait.

So, this round TD outfished me. Thats ok . I think in a Month trout fishing will be better at all the lakes as it will be cooler.

So, I am going to keep this short for now as I am sunburnt and in need of a nap.

Looks like you all had a fun day.I couldn't change my schedule to go out there with all you guys,still sitting here at work til 9pm.Sorry to hear you didn't get into any trout but at least you caught something.I am going to make it up there within the next month.Better luck with the trout next time you fish.Keep us posted when the next Troutman invitational event is.

It was a good day out there, weather was perfect...

Good to finally meet Patrick and so many others..
Good group of guys...

As Patrick said I was still feeling less then 100% so I left about 11:15 or so..

I brought some home made Sushi from last night. Fresh Yellow Tail.
Should have used it for bait... :ROFL:

I was amazed at the Trophy for this event. *WOW* Sweet!!!

Hey Frank, Thanks for posting up . Also a big thanks for going home and getting your home made Sushi and sharing it with all us. :Big Grin: It was good stuff.

Gotstofish, No worrys . I will be doing some more trout fishing events down the road for sure. This one was fun and to get out and shake the rust off. Let me tell you that there will be some funny storys told. I can't wait for Trout Dogs take on today. :LOL: Thanks for reading buddy . See you next time :Wink:

We were at the lake to the left when you first come in to Jess Ranch. I think It was lake 2. We were down to far. If you can get to the point area you should do great It was better fishing . We tried to get that spot but we were a large group and we all wanted to fish together. Later in the afternoon a Berkley Power worm drop shot style ( Orange) yielded trout.

We fished with Power bait and that worked to land some trout.

You just got to keep trying different stuff till you find what the trout want .

yea bro last time i only caught 1 on PB..i caught all mine eitherthrowin a jig(with something/anything orange) or a kastmaster...i love that lake now! and only been there once..

PoxyBoggards, Daryl and I got to Jess just shy of opening and were greeted by the rest of the crew that came out to knock the rust off and get ready for the 2009-10 trout season. We met up with MvW,his neighbor Ernie, FishWhisperer, Troutaholic(long time no fish bud!), surprise guest Fred, master of ceremonies TM65 and later on Nessie. We did not get there early enough to secure the spot we hoped for, but we made due nonetheless. I nailed a trout on my first cast with my LipRipperz spoon in "goldfish" color. Sweet skunk off! :Big Grin:

Had a great time with all the guys, weather was warm and the brews were icy....gotta love October in So Cal! Congrats to Poxy Boggards for taking heaviest stringer for the day, job well done but I am taking you down next time out! :LOL:

A big thanks to TM65 for putting this invitational together! That trophy is awesome Patrick! It's going to find a new home on my desk on Monday.

I knew the day was going to be good when Trout Dog rolls up in the morning and says "Want to go fishing?". We quickly loaded up my gear and headed east to pick up Daryl. Loaded up Daryl's gear and we were headed off for Jess Ranch.

We arivied at around 6:50 AM, and shortly after loading our stuff into the cart they open the gates. We got there a little to late to get the spot that we wanted, but I knew the fish would be on the chew in the morning regardless.

As we are walking in it looked promising with people hooked up left and right. I quickly got set up and nailed my first trout of the 09/10 season on Salmon Peach PB. Got another two on Inflated Night Crawlers. It was after 10:00 AM, and the good morning bite slowed down quite a bit.

At around 11:30 or so Patrick decided to call invitational, and I got my first look at that awesome little trophy, thanks again Patrick! TM65 declared me the winner, and we took a group shot with the trophy.

It seemed like the bait bite had died, so I switched up to a drop shot set up and decided to work an Orange Powerworm. 2nd cast I got bit pretty well, but set the hook to soon, next cast get bit again, but set the hook to hard, third cast just right, get bit set the hook and fish on. Converted a few non believers, and Trout Dog and Daryl start working the Drop Shot set up. We all managed to take a couple of fish on the drop shot.

The bite picked back up in the afternoon, and the boyscouts down the shore from us were putting on a catching display fishing Salmon Peach PB, they were casting fairly close to shore.

We ended the day very close to limiting out, cleaned our fish and said our goodbyes to the Jess Ranch employees. Thanks again to TM65 for organizing this event, and for the awesome trophy! Thanks to Trout Dog for driving all they way up to Apple Valley.

Forgot to say thank you to the Jess Lake employee driving the golf cart for taking our easy up to the front so we did not have to lug back around the lake...VERY COOL!

Yeah , About that birds nest TD. I thought you would of told the story. Thats why these trips are good to get the rust off.:LOL: I had set my one rod up and went to cast. It went ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. OH Crap !!!! Huge birds nest :!!!: I had forgotten to tighten down my drag before casting. Everyone was laughing including myself. It was ok because I carry extra reels to use in case something like that happens. I was back on the water very soon after changing out reels.

You need to look at the Fishing Rendezvous Section of the boards . Thats where people post up when and where they will be fishing. I posted this event a week in advance ( I think ) :LOL: As far as the day goes I try to do it on a day that most can attened. ( If its a Troutman fishing event) If I just want to fish and have some company i'll post up the day when I am fishing and if you can make it then cool.

There is a great event coming up . The Turkey Bowl II at irvine lake . Check out the Rendezvous section.

Thanks for ride up Aaron. It was nice to sit back and enjoy a nice relaxing day with great people and great weather. Wes, you ruled out there. Unfortunately for me, I missed a number of bites, and by the time the golf cart came by to load up all of our gear, I just wasn't done yet. Thanks Wes for catching my limit; I'll be smoking those trout for our next trip.

Patrick, thanks for setting this up and getting the trophy made. That added a nice touch to the gathering.

Thanks Patrick for setting this event up. I needed that trout fix!!! Next time we are gonna have to get there early to get that hot spot. Those Boy Scouts were on fire after you left. I think they all had limits. I had a great time out there. Nice to meet some more Team 57 brothers!! Can't wait to hit up Jess Ranch when it gets cooler. Congrats to Wes for winning it all. For any one that doesnt know...

Jess Ranch also has a Float Tube Only lake, C&R Bass..
Its right up the hill behind where we were at.. Extra $20 bucks and must be at least 2 Tubers (for Safety)...
Used to be WFO, bass a cast type fishing... Or so I was told by a friend who went often..
Once you sign up, they let you drive your car up to the lake to unload & fish.. Cool little place.....

I agree with Nessie that Jess Ranch lakes is a cool little place.

MvW , Thanks for posting up . I was wondering if someone got any action shots of my hook up. It was a blast on my 5' Kencor rod. Great bendo shots.

You notice how clear the water is ? Its crystal clear. I should of kept that CATFISH . I threw it back so it could grow bigger. I bet that would of been the cleanest tasting CATFISH you can get in So. Cal.

It was fun times fishing together guys. I will do another event soon.

Way to go Team 57!
It looks like you all had a great time, I sure wanted to go but it would've been tough with my walker. I get rid of the walker today and move to a cane for a week or so and now I'm ready to do some fishing.
