ToadsToadsOnly back to you guys again from Cajun Land,

Last week I caught a couple more and there was a weather change so the Gar went on Lockjaw. I have not been out for these suckers since last Thursday since the cold front, rain, wind, and more wind. Went to my original spot it was kinda slow I saw a local that lives down the street from the spot who is pretty much the only other person that fishes the spot. I asked him if he want to go explore with me so off we went to another spot I been eying. We cast out our gar rod and I proceeded to work my way down the Canal fishing for largemouth bass about 5 to 10 min into it I get hammered on my little 3 inch suspending Jerkbait. Started the battle with this sucker it pulled like crazy in it went, then out, in then stripping line down the bank so I kept walking down the bank following it. I yelled over to the local named Michael get the stick with the nuse! He comes running down the bank 15 min later and about 50 yards down the bank from where I originally started I put the nuse around his neck and dragged the sucker on the shore.

Largest fish I ever landed on a bass rod 5' 101/2'', weighed in right about 100lbs, on a Curado 300 DHSV, suffix 50lb braid, 20lb Stren Magnaflex mono, and a yozuri jerk bait.

All I got to say is Heck Yea!!!!!!!!!!!

Not the 7ft one I am hunting for but on my Curado!!! Man!

No BIG fish is safe when your on the job Jonathan. Another nice gator gar so what do you guys do with them. Are they a tasty fish or just fun to catch? When I caught them in Florida I just let them slide squirm back in to the swamp water like a snake.

Aww man cleaning them is a Biotch and a half I would just let them all go but my uncle likes them so home they go. When you clean them you got to get a butcher knife and a big hammer chop the super thick skin and scales straight down the back (in which takes forever!) take wire cutters cut around the fin's then a fillet knife and cut out the meat. Then you get this boneless huge pieces of meat. The fish are made into something called fish cakes or fish balls. They are rather tasty but a lot of work to get the meat. I actually feel bad keeping these guys I did my research and a fish this size is about 20-30 years old.

Due to the appearance sportfishing for Gar is unpopular that is why there is a lot of them in Louisiana. In Texas bow hunting is a popular sport for the gar they put a dent in the population in some areas so they bumped the bag limit to to 1 per day. But out here no restrictions and no limit that my research has seen. People pay up to $700 a day for a guided trip to target these monster gar in texas.
