I am looking to get a trolling motor for my boat and I don't know what size trolling motor or if I should get a bow mount or transom mount.

Depends dude, bass fishing? Definitely Bow mount, especially the Minn Kotas with wrist remote control.... 46lb thrust minimum.... Tiller works fine too but you gotta keep on it all the time.... You may have to take off one of the rails on the front for a bow mount though....

Also you'll probably want two batteries in your boat with a Perko switch (1, 2, all) if you don't already have two batteries already.

That way you can run your trolling motor and accessories (fish finder, gps, etc.) off one battery and still have a fresh battery left for starting. Switch to "all" on the Perko switch and you can charge both batteries with the alternator.

That's what I would do. And get a pretty powerful trolling motor like Geordy said. Way better to run a 50-70lb. thrust motor at low speed than to be running a 40-lb. thrust at full speed all the time.

Also once the wind kicks up, you'll be glad your troller has some balls!

Did you get your motor and ignition all fixed up yet? When are you going fishin?

i have 55 lb thrust (biggest for 1 battery) i can use it all day long and still have some left for another day if i am camping. the new digital pulse or what ever they call them, last a long time. get a bolt on foot control with about 50" shaft. go to cabelas and use the measure pattern they have for choosing that. i paid $500 for trolling motor and about $80 for battery from autozone. marine deep cell. then get yourself an onboard charger for it and plug in when not in use. big hint: when you find what you want, buy it on amazon.com and avoid the tax and shipping chargers.

I'm thinking about a 55 lb trust trolling motor and then get a separate battery for that. My dad was thinking about getting a transom mount trolling motor instead of bow mount, because it would be easier to attach.

Go bow mount all the way. Much better to pull the boat than push it when you're maneuvering in tight quarters. You may also want a kicker outboard on your transom at some time. And be sure to get that Perko switch so you can charge both batteries at once off your motor's alternator. You can also install an onboard charger to plug in once you get home or you can just use a car battery charger that is compatible with deep cycle to top off your batteries.

So did you fix the ignition and the motor? When are we goin fishin? Trout season is starting!

Good Luck,
Kev

I already have a trickle charger so I am good to go. :D
I will tell my dad that we should get a bow mount.
