First off I want to say that my brother, Disco Mike, had a great day meeting and fishing with trailblazer and cutbait on Saturday during Stiper fest. There is a good chance perhaps I might see you guys on the water as well. Now to the report, I went out with one of my friends, MondoGenerator (not on FNN). We got there about 5:30 and we were the 5th boat in line. As soon as we dipped the boat we hurried over to one of my favorite morning spots and within the first 10 minutes Mondo was hooked up on two nice 3.4 lb stripers. I got myself a decent largemouth soon thereafter. Got a few more schoolie stripers over the next hour and moved to location #2. We shared this spot with a boat of 3 other guys who seemed cool and were just enjoying the cove to ourselves. They were using shad and were rippin' them out left and right. There were lmb boils about every 2-3 minutes and it wasn't too long before I got a nice one on the sammy. After that the bite slowed, at least for us (we didn't have any shad), we left and trolled up in the ski arm to try and locate some schools. Found another cove and the lmb boils were on again. Got a few more here and I started to see a few random shad die-off. They didn't stay on the surface long though (I could see one surface, and within 60 seconds a largemouth would boil on it), so I could only grab one or two, but it turned out to be enough for a treat. First two I got were a largie and a stripey. Third, well I got me a kitty. And a decent kitty too. digi scale said 4.8 lb, decided to troll out of there when it got slow again and came up on a 6.75 lb stripey. he tore off the 4# line and took me for a lil trip. I had to have Mondo jump behind the wheel and take me a little closer (i didn't want to get spooled). Took me about 5-6 mins to get him landed, but it was well worth it. personal best @ Castaic. eventually left there and got 1 or 2 more lmb in a cove or two before leaving and decided to call it a day. All in all I'd say it was a good day. Here are some pics ...
