Sturgeonmando!!!

Let's keep this going. Fished out in the middle again looking for that big blue. The bite was a little slow with 2 to 3 bites per hour during the night. At a quarter to 1am I was ready to call it quits. Something kept telling me to wait a until at least 1am. About 10 minutes later i got a pretty regular run. I gave it a little more running room because I knew this would be the last fish of the night and I didn't want to mess it up. I set the hook and the fight was on. It was almost a repeat of last week's battle. This fish was coming up good so I was figuring around a 40 pound blue. Then it took me to the bottom and hung on tight. I can't understand why it is so hard to get them off the bottom. For a second I thought he had hung me up on some structure. I almost never get stuck out there so I just sat and waited until he was ready, then started lifting inches at a time. When he finally reached the surface, I was a little shocked to see the nearly 5 foot slim body emerge.

This was my second confirmed sturgeon hooked but only the first landed. And, it was exactly 10 years to the day since I caught the Irvine Lake and state record. Not sure if this is a new record at the lake but definitely a cool anniversary present.

The fight was on 20 pound big game and an 8/0 octopus circle. The fish went belly up on the release so we put him out of his misery.

Sounds like you got a nice Sturgeon but not Nessie. Nessie would be bigger than what you described. Thanks for the post .

Thanks guys. I don't think they grow that fast in that lake, so your guess is as good as mine. Might have to do some research on it. All I know is it was another great battle!
