Lobster card.

I went out and got a lobster card yesterday and it reads "card not valid after december 31st".
Can someone clarify this? Need to buy anotherone after this date?
I was told that i need to turn it in after season is over. Maybe i didnt read it all the way. I dont have the card with me at this moment.

After Dec 31st you have to get a new one like a fishing license only good for 1 year
