kind of like a picture of a scale with that "7 pound" corbina.

Ive caught dozens of corbina to 22 inches. Yours would need to grow another 3 inches and a huge belly.

Ive seen 7 pounders on a scale and that is not even close. Try 5.

Dude....extremely impressive. What do you do for a living cuz I think I may want to change professions so I can afford trips like those! haha!

The only really expensive one was Brazil. There is no way to do that one cheaply that I know of. However, the others can be affordable if you wait for airline deals and find some buddies to split charter costs. The guy who I shared a boat with in Brazil is a cop in a small town in Wisconsin who is in his 30s, so you don't have to be a CEO or save for decades to do these trips. For Brazil you can try to get last minute deals when other people cancel; that can cut the cost in half. You have to be creative and you have to want it more than you want some other stuff.

Dude....extremely impressive. What do you do for a living cuz I think I may want to change professions so I can afford trips like those! haha!

The other thing that helped me afford these trips when I didn't make as much money was skimping on gear. I mostly fished used Ugly Sticks that can be bought for practically nothing on craigslist or whatever. For reels it was mostly Sealines and old school Penns (and later some Toriums). Just this year I upgraded everything to custom rods and Accurates and Trinidads, but 95% of all the fish I've caught were caught on cheap but durable tackle. I talk to people who say they can't afford to go on trips like this, but then they have a boat and/or all this high end JDM/Steez/Accurate tackle. It's a tradeoff; if your income is finite you can't have everything. I've never had a boat and probably won't for a long time. I also didn't do a lot of local fishing; I saved my pennies to fish less days overseas. I would rather fish 1 day in Panama than 5-10 days in So Cal. I probably only fish 15-20 days per year tops but I try to make them count.

Butterfly Peacock Bass - 9.5lbs (Brazil)
Marlin - 400lbs (Costa Rica) (before you start flaming about killing it, please note it died during the fight and could not be revived)

Which Way Out
06-17-2010, 11:12 AM
No photo but my overall PB would have to be the very rare Totoaba aka Tortuava, Many years ago south of San Felipe I hooked up on one. 1 hour had gone by before we knew what was on the line. Then another hour goes by just trying to get close to it to remove the huge Beezerk lure from its mouth. We knew we could not keep it and of course were not going to gaf it. Heck even if we wanted to I don't know how we would have boated it. Picture this, 17 foot boat, 3 people in it and a 7 foot 150 kilo fish. Any way it rolled and busted the line and took the lure. I always think about that fish, its what nightmares are made of. If only it was legal to keep, we had a gaf and we were only 300+ yards off shore. We could of got it in somehow and all on 30 pound line with no leader. If you want to find out more about Totoaba check it out at Mexfish.com History of the Totoaba. AND PLEASE RELEASE IF YOU EVER HOOK ONE....
