As long as the bonito are biting my crystal ball says the trout will follow suit

JK man...the bite on opening day could be hit or miss. The water temp, clarity(could be affected by the amount of rain we get the next day or so) and time the fish arrive may also play a factor as fish will need time to acclimate. Regardless if you can get out there, do it!

Good luck and have fun,

TD

It's hit or miss. All depends on the weather leading up to the opener. If the weather stays this cold, I'd say it should be pretty good. We were out there one year and caught many fish on the opener, then the next year the oxygen level was so low, many fish died off.

If it's Friday, the only problem may be the rain.

I had heard that the temp was going to be about 88 in the LA area on Thursday now I know that not the OC but I can’t image its going to be a whole hell of a lot different

wait for a couple plants to go in, and some rain to fill the lake up a little bit and itll cool the lake temp down. then go.

I'd do the same too...i believe they're doing a 1/2 trout 1/2 cat plant. I maybe wrong. But the water level should come up soon with some rain in the coming days. It should be good after that

Just go, fishing is always fun.

But i think its a 50/50 trout catfish stock, so dont forget to have a kitty rod out also

I would wait until the fish get adjusted to the lake and water temp.

I agree. If im going to spend 20 bucks on a lake entry fee, then I want to catch fish.
I live close to the corona area, and we did not get all that much rain, certainly not enough to raise the lake level a significant amount. Also, it is supposed to be 95 degrees in corona on friday. So if you want to fishing go, if you want to go catching, I'd wait a few weeks.

oh that's heavy fish. how much bait do you need to catch those big ones?

samgann93

dont fish for a lloyd. try and catch a limit and you might get lucky. use 2lb test and use a lip ripperz mini jig. let the fish runnnnnnnnnnnnn.

The worms and the lit'l ripperz are awesome.

oh and do you have to put a weight with the lure?and do the fish bite fast on it?

samgann93
10-14-2009, 07:28 PM
no the mini jigs are already weighted. get the 1/32oz. the fish will usually just bite it and sit or bite it and swim away like nothing happened. Im sure there have been times where they hit it and just run like crazyyy but not usually. If you feel like your stuck on something... SET THE HOOK!

Good luck.

Oh and straight from the lip ripperz site...

"Was that a bite?

Sometimes a bite will feel like a small tick in the rod or a small force of resistance. When this happens, set the hook!!! Other times, the fish will practically pull the rod out of your hands!!! When this happens, raise the rod tip and start the fight!!!"

20lb tailwalkers...6lb test. Y not. Dont want lose em. Those things sure do fight.

samgann93

6lb wont get you as many bites. but i definetly understand not wanting to lose one. with the water being resonably dirty at corona and sarl the line might not matter as much.

good luck either way.
