Im out her in cajun land (Louisiana) for a month and on the hunt for some Toad Gar I drove aroud the city scoping out new spots and happen to stumble upon a Canal in which noone fishes and is loaded with moster Gar Fish. These guys are no joke to catch It take about 10 hookups to land 1 and about 15-20 bites. The problem is not only hooking them since they have a jaw full of un penetrable bone and teeth the size of Crocodile teeth. Well I will let the pictures do the rest of the talking...

Cool report!

I used to see them in Texas (I think a different variety, and we didn't use hooks), but never that big! Nice job landing that one!

There have been reports of them attacking people, and its easy to believe!

Way to go Jonathan. I caught a few Gator Gar one time when I went to Florida but not that big. So are you going to fish for the Jacks again off the rocks like last time? Enjoy your vacation and keep us posted on the fishing. GO BIG until it's time to come home...When you get back to Socal it will be GO BIG TIME once again..

I'm trying to catch one on a jerk bait wish i would of brought my LC's that would be pretty awesome. I went to look for the monster jack cravalles but they are nowhere to be found at lake ponchatrain this trip. The locals said this year they let to much water in from the missisipi so not enough salt too much fresh water. Hopefully when I get back the LMB would be hittin the big baits and we could get some toad calicos from the yak.

I wade this river near my house during the summer; shorts and t-shirt. It is choke full of gar and they bump into my legs and scare the crap outta ya. Insane. Sometimes we hook them but with their mouth and teeth it is hard to keep them on the hook. Thank god the ones we have here are no where near as big as the ones in your pictures.
