Having a window of opportunity getting Monday off,i was hoping to jump on a 3/4 day boat out of h&m or seaforth. after calling every landing in san diego,
none of the boats could get enough people to get out!
so that idea was scratched!!! then i called daveys locker for their 6:00 to 6:00 tuna run. they were all booked up!! limited to 25 passengers...
now it was time for plan C!!
Opted to jump on the pursuit out of 22nd street landing for the first time.
if i could sum it up in one word it would be EXCELLENT !!!!
by far was the best charter I've been on yet!..
got there extra early, not being there before.
grab my ticket and place my stuff in line with the others.
leave at 6:00 with 22 passengers..
off to the bait barge.
deckhand mike and captain johnny loading up with small anchovies..

nice blue water at the island!
http://i828.photobucket.com/albums/zz208/Inoah11Photos/photo-62.jpg
now there's gonna be a void in the next picture!
at this point we reached one of our many spots. as soon as the first cast was thrown out, it was complete mayhem!!!! hookups every were!!!!!!
sorry couldn't get pics of the action, had my hands full!!
but there was bonito coming over the rail all over!
the bite was strong for a while.
after catching my limit of bonito, i tried for other species, with success!!
here are the rest of my pics..

now here's a first for me, i see mike cutting up some bonito, i ask him, cutting up lunch for your self? he says ,no its for you guys to try!! cool!!!
so he gives it to Aaron in the galley, she cooks it up,brings it out and offers everyone!! wow!! now that's customer service!!.. as you can see on the plate shes holding, it was going quick!...
http://i828.photobucket.com/albums/zz208/Inoah11Photos/photo-63.jpg
after many stops, and filling our sacks,we start heading home, and cleaning our fish..
http://i828.photobucket.com/albums/zz208/Inoah11Photos/photo-67.jpg
these were the weapons of choice.

seeker, sealine with bait = big bonito.. bottom rig=sheepshead.

Finally ... now I know what spots to get on either of the the stern corners. Thanks much !! Sometimes it seems like some folks guard those like some kind of a secret !! :)

Await more great reports like that !! Oh ya ... That wasn't Spanish Mackerel you were talking about was it ? Those make great chirashi ..... especially Okinawan-style.

actually that was just a good spot to take that picture, while i was waiting to get my fish cleaned..
i got there early enough to get a good spot which was left corner, but i didn't like the way it got bunched up on the bite...id much rather stay with in chumming distance,
and be more on the side with some elbow room. think i still did ok..
no,deckie said the small ones with the yellow tail were spanish jacks.

thanks,for the info vic.
yes, the captain said limit 5 on the big ones (which by the way weighted in at 5 and a half to 6 and a half pounds on my lip gripper scale.) and 5 small ones which i had two there.. maybe he was just trying to conserve the area?

Fresh bonita if properly taken care of is great table fare imo. Arron does cook up a mean plate of bonita. Good work out there, and thanks for sharing your adventure with us here.
