PURSUIT *I <3 Bonito* 9/30

Wow...good fishing at the Island today...

Pulled an all nighter and left the house at 3am to pick up Hbomb. We got to the landing at 4:30am and there were already a few people in line. Bought our tickets and Cappo shows up a few mins after. Board the boat and were off to get some fresh bait from the bait boat. Today we had some anchovies mixed with some small sardines.

The ride over to the Island was a little rough. I got a little :Confused: Queezy for the first time in a while.

Well we arrive to the first spot and it was GAME ON almost instantly. It was probalby the best local bonito bite ive been in. It turned into "combat fishing" quick with people bumping into eachother, fishing rod swordfights, tangles, over under over under, and maybe a few words exchanged... but that goes with pretty much any WO bite. I guess another way to describe it would be AWESOME! got some on bait some on the mint Tady C... Japan Bomb even got one on the plastic.

We sit on this spot for a couple hours with constant action. Bonito and a few bass coming over the rail.

speaking of chumming...some kid decided to chum in the bunkroom. Thats when I started feeling sick. The smell got to me LOL

So we make some moves....bonita here...bass there. The captain made sure to keep fish coming over the rail. The crew was helpfull and was there whenever we needed them. Its been a couple years since I fished this boat. I guess what kept me away was the crowds. The last time I fished it, there were 70 people on the boat. wow...LOL... The summer is over and crowds are getting lighter. I can see myself jumping on the Pursuit again in the near future. Like i said, Great capt and crew!

Right when we were ready to find another spot bammmmm complete mayhem all over the place it was awesome, hey vic you didn't take a pic of the 8lb bass that was in my sack....:ROFL: Jk Ghetto Dad....I was going to release a pretty good size one but his gills were all messed up so he went straight to my sackkkk......:ROFL:.... Thanks Rich...Yes it is time to get back to reality. I would stay here but there are too many distractions :Wink: . I think getting away and working on a few personal things would be best right now. Ill be back every once in a while to get some salt on my avets.

They are having some lighter loads now... In the middle of summer it can seem like too much though. I guess it gets packed for a reason. Pretty much everyone on the boat got some action.

Thanks dean...I spent maybe 15...16...25...30 days...im not sure haha. Some guy on the boat kept complaining because he didnt want anybody to cross his line or come over/under him. He just wanted to stay in his spot. It reminded me of you LOL.

It was nice meeting all you guys for the first time. Sorry I wasn't as talkative or friendly as I normally am. I was right on the point of being seasick and that dampen my mood for the whole day. I spent about half the day sleeping it off and the other half fishing. Victor is correct, bonita fishing was awesome today. Here's a few photo to add to the report.

people gaffing a tiny mako, way to go. Because one freaking mako shark looks so good in the counts, ohhh and they can also charge $20 for cleaning it. Ignorance, killing a twenty pound mako is plain selfish ignorance. Wait till the enviros read this, next we know they'll be shutting down shark fishing all together. Maybe they should, people odviously can't regulate themselves. If people would simply make a concious decision to release fish that are odviously inmature, people wouldn't look at pictures of dead makos and think, "great catch, maybe they should have released it now and barbequed it when it was 80 lbs bigger." And yes, I am the one who always points stuff like this out, maybe people will finally understand that I've seen it from the inside, and the reason for keeping fish like that is not for anything other than ignorance. Making a quick buck is much better for certain people than the long term health of a fishery. Its okay, its not affecting them, but it will be affecting the younger generation who will have to feel the repricusions during there lifetime. Rant over, let the flaming begin, and oh yes, sure it legal, that doesn't mean its right.

Now Victor, I know you didn't do anything wrong, and this isn't a personal attack to anyone on this board, its my opinion, by the way, good job on the bonito and other critters

No flaming here...Everyone is entitled to their views, and i cant say I disagree with you. It IS up to us to conserve... BTW for what its worth, the dude felt bad about gaffing it afterwards.

yeah, I would feel really bad too, when I first started working on sportfishing boats, which were sportboats (not anymore), I wouldn't have a problem with stuff like that. However, when I matured and started becoming aware of the affects such practices were having on the fishery, it made me more sensitive to such actions.

I saw too many bonito and barracuda dumped in the harbor, becuase deadheads killed as many as they could, throwing them on the deck, and then at the end of the day realized that no one wanted them.
