Be warned fellow citizens. We are under attack from an alien creature called mackerels.

I went to Catalina for a little fun.
It was sunny with no cloud and just a little wind.
What a day for fishing!

Unfortunately wind was a little chilly in the morning and I couldn't locate a single bonito on this trip. A local told me they disappeared for a few days and haven't returned yet.

I spent most of day waiting for bonitos to happen and playing with calico basses using 4lbs flourocarbon leader. And there're a lot of them.
They are fun to catch and feel the line as those little fish pull the line like a bull at first then the 4lbs flourocarbon adds another thrill as the fish try to swim in and out of kelp branches. :D

A blacksmith got in the action too.

Near the sunset time, all of a sudden a series of massive strikes by the mackerels broke out.
Wow, in real life I've never seen such a vast sized attack by any species of fish on earth.
It lasted well over 3 hours and into the night and the numbers increased as the time passed.
At one point, it was thousands of mackerels cover the almost all of front sea of Avalon. Too bad the picture cannot really show the massivenes of it.

First the pacific mackerels.

Then followed by spanish mackerels which I love to catch.
They are more fierce than their cousins.
Also it's a lot of fun to watch and catch them as they swim real fast when they try to chase the baits.

Well I guess another ticket to the island is in order.

Next time, maybe it's bontio time.
Have fun fishing guys.
