Hey all,

I'm headed over to Newport beach for a bit of fun with friends, but I'm bringing my fishing gear along. I'm just bringing my spinning rod and a handful of small jigs to throw in the surf, hopefully to catch some surf perch. Any tips? The main lure I have is a bunch of white Road Runners with White plastic grubs.

Thanks!

Avoid surf fishing with light tackle whenever there is a north or south swell.

You dont necessarily need to use a carolina rig, but it does have the advantage of letting the fish pick the bait up without feeling the sinker.

Use sandcrabs. Always use sandcrabs when available. Nice spots to check out are the northern sides of the jetties. Keep in mind for the better fish, you will be required to get wet.

I venture out about waist-deep when conditions allow me to.

Best size sandcrabs are exactly an inch long, however the big perch love a fat soft crab.

PM me if you want to know what jetties are the best. (only carpanglerdude)
