After the Tide Change cancelled because we couldnt get enough people out, we decided to try the Tradition. Ive fished with the old Spitfire Crew many times before and thought I would try Redondo's new boat.

Showed up at 5am...bought our tickets at 5:15am and it looked like we would have a VERY light load...there were only 7 of us up until around 5:30am when everybody started showing up. We ended up with 19 people total.

Our crew for today was Shawn in the galley, forgot dude's name who was on deck, and Steven driving the boat for us. The old Spitfire crew had the day off...except for Capt. Steven.

Getting rigged up

For bait today we had some small sardines mixed in with some anchovy. We made a stop before getting to the island to try and make some bigger bait.

It was foggy most of the day...It cleared up for about the last hour or two of fishing.

Pursuit....mmmmooooo($45 special day)
http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa293/ogvictor1/087.jpg

So on the first stop we pick at the bass...I think i got 1 short on that stop. Second stop it picked up...I got a couple bass and got my @$$ kicked by this bonita...

caught on 12lb test on a compre/curado200e setup...This thing really kicked my butt
http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa293/ogvictor1/089.jpg

Third stop was pretty good on the bass...I ended up with like 5 on this stop...with some shorts mixed in. lalo hooks a nice bonita on a light setup too
http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa293/ogvictor1/090.jpg

He got his up a lot faster than I did...must be the "bull" in him....LOL!

lalo the hardcore fisherman hooks another nice bonita!
http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa293/ogvictor1/091.jpg

Steven stands by with the gaff
http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa293/ogvictor1/092.jpg

I didnt get a pic of his second one...it looked a lot like the first one.

Heres Hbomb with a bass
http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa293/ogvictor1/093.jpg

So it was pretty much picking at the bass...If you worked at it(picked the right bait, changed it often, worked your bait) you were rewarded. Some nice sheephead came over the rail too...I wish I would have brought some skrimps cause some of the spots we hit looked really good for the sheeps.

The total for 19anglers: 54 Calico Bass 9 Sheephead 14 Bonito 20 Perch

It was another fun trip. I got to meet some cool peeps...cant wait to do it agian.

It was very nice meeting you Victor and Hbomb! Thanks for the tips Victor. I have a few pictures to add later. HAHA! you got us taking a nap, that what 2 hrs of sleep and a full day of fishing does. I should have taken one of you two as well =]. I had a blast, the second bonita almost spooled me, it kept diving zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz there it goes again. I love the shimano curado 201e7. Maybe thats why i got it up faster, because i have the faster gear reel.

Just waiting for brother to send me pics.

It was really fun. Got to meet Victor and Hbomb, very cool people. Someone told me to be a bull, so i was. We were at the galley chillen while the boat was making its first kelp stop. I see through the window of the galley someone has put his pole at our spot assigned there. So i go down grab my pole and take it there next to Victor we were neighbors since we arrived early enough to get the stern, So i moved his pole off our spots... Then i tell Victor, "Im not letting anyone punk me again! The guys comes and says thats my pole. I said Yes, and thats my number spot! These 3 spots are ours! Then my bro and friend comes by and take their spots that we woke up early enough to get the spots. So then never saw him next to us again.

P.S. I dont like to do that but I guess with some people you have to be. I have learned. Someone took my spot, I would cast over them.

You said that some guy put his rod on your numbered rail spot and you moved him. That was on a kelp spot and I assume you drifted past or away from that kelp. As your lines started to angle did you guys follow your lines and leave your rail number or did you stay at your assigned rail number and watch angled lines get tangled?? Just wondering.

I am looking forward to coming up there this winter to do some bottom fishing with Vic and gang. Fishing is just too good down here right now to leave...

No, what i meant was, at our first stop a guy had already put his fishing rod on our spot. We were relaxing up on the galley looking down at the bow. I told my brother and friend "Look, that guy things he is going to take our spot"
I head down, grab my pole from the pole holders, head to my spot, move his rod from our spot. He comes and tells me "thats my pole" I said "yes and this is my spot" showed him my number and i told him "these other 3 are ours as well." Not long after my brother and friend come down and get their spots and he just didnt fit in there so he left.

Ill try man... I dont know how much longer til i go back to Vegas tho...might only be a couple weeks. Til then...i need to fish hard!

LOL...Some boats like the Tide Change or the Spitfire dont have numbers so you just make your way into where the bite is. The Tradition Does have them so why not use them to your advantage. Pick a spot on the stern where you will face the kelp line...Of course youre going to follow your line or reel it in if its drifting too far sideways. If someone wants to sneak a cast or two in and get in some of the action Its not a problem with me...but I will cast from the second row. If somebody has something to say about it...they can wake up at 2-3am next time and get one for themselves. I talked to one of the regulars there and he said hes usually there at 3am on Saturdays to get a stern spot...landing opens at 5am. Thats just the way the do it there...

As for the winter bottom fishing...Isnt Bottom fishing better down there too? Im sure they will come up with some sort of surcharge for winter time trips...

Next time dont Assume...cause you will make an *** of you and me(thanks bro)...Oh yeah...Thanks for the reply :)
