An unusual September storm just passed a couple days ago. We were faced with post frontal conditions, but it was still quite warm for being 8:30 in the morning. There was absolutely no wind and the water was quite clear. Our first stop was on a big weedy flat that had a nice ledge that broke off ito the main lake channel. A few bass were busting bait, but they would not hit any of the topwater baits we threw at them. I should have maybe scaled down the size of out lures. The baitfish the bass were chasing were relatively small. Throwing a Norman Deep Little N crankbait we catch a few 13 inchers. Moving north up the lake, we stop on another big flat which had some isolated rock piles. Fishing a jig we catch two more small ones. After being flat calm all day, the wind finally kicked up at around 1pm. We went back to the spot we started the morning and caught about 10 more bass in about half an hour. Most of the fish were suspended, so dropshoting a prism shad 6” Roboworm seemed to do the trick quite well. The ajority of the bass were caught in 20-30 feet of water, but a couple of the larger fish, two pounders, were caught at about 35 feet. Overall not a bad day of fishing.
