Got to the lake at 630 and waited in line for about 45 mins. Got the skiff on the water by 730 and had our first fish by 740. In the am the green bass were mixed in with the smaller linsides, they were thick in the morning. We had a good 15 greenies to one stripe in the am. The stripers were a nice grade of fish that averaged 3 to 4 pounds, with a few 5-6 lb stripes and had one that went 7.4 on the scale. These fish were fat and strong on 8 lb tackle, baits fished were small topwater baits (3 inch). They didnt want the larger 80 and 110 size baits (got on one the bigger bait), the bass were keyed in on the very small shad (2-3 inches) and bait balls. It was run-n-gun kind of fishing, find'em foaming and its on, good luck out there guys. Time to go after some salty bass.

Tight lines!

i was there too, the boils weren't as intense as they usually are. oh yeah, also the line to get in the gate sucked massively. the kid was chit-chatting with everyone coming through. what a moron.

The wait did suck, but the fishing made up for the wait and was forgoten by 740am. This was my first time up at Castaic, lived the speed limit of 35mph. Im also sure that my salty skiff really enjoyed the fresh water bath. The bass fishing was fun to say the least, remindedme of the calico fishing a couple of weeks ago at SCI.

Met a cool dude up at the parking lot in a white chevy pickup who mentioned the lack of foamers, he told us that the two weeks prior were absolutly nuts out there. I may hit it up on Sat morning, but im sure its gonna be a clusterphuck out there and may head to the pacific for a little more elbow room.

Nice job on the linesides.

Too bad about that green bycatch! It's disappointing for me when I'm after striper to catch the big sunfish. Last year in the StriperBowl, all I caught was Largemouth.
