Striper-Fest 2009 will be held on Saturday October 17th

Location: Castaic Upper Lake

After fishing activities Raffle, trophies, camping, etc will be held at the group campground up on the top of the hill of the west ramp. # Acre lot
These activities will be held shortly after the close of the fishing day.

Please cut and paste your name below and we’ll get this sign up list underway.

Overnight camping options are available to all attendee’s at no charge, courtesy of myself.
I encourage everyone to make a night out of it and have a night under the stars.

I do not believe the west ramp will be available for launch at that time though due to low water conditions.

All basic rules and conditions apply as with the “Striper-Bowl”.

*No entry fee’s will be collected, this is purely a fun event.

*A trophy will be awarded for the biggest fish and heaviest one man limit or stringer and the smallest fish.

*Each participant is obligated to bring a raffle donation, something striper oriented, all items will be raffled off to all anglers/participants (no purchase necessary).

We work off the honor system so please guys, no exchanging fish between anglers, keep it honest and fun.

The striper bite has been off the hook and should be still going strong by this date and if luck is with us, even bigger fish should be showing by then.

I am fine with people bringing a potluck but I really cannot handle the organizing of it as my responsibilties are great with all the arrangements and dealing with the trophies and internal technicalities.

Just so we're all clear, we will have access to the west ramp gate after hours to get to the group campsites.

In other words, we can fish till closing, then go to the group camp for our event and take all the time we need.
anyone who wishes to leave after the event festivities can exit down through the lagoon at paradise cove at any hour of the night but there will be no re-entry after everyone has joined us at the group campsite.

If anyone has a portable generator with a light and would be willing to bring it, that would be AWESOME !

I have been footing the bill but the costs have not been real monumental but I wouldnt mind if a few people could chip in a few bucks to help soften the blow to my wallet, that wouldnt be that much though, if everyone were able to donate just a couple bucks, maybe 3-5 bucks each we'd end up in a pretty much even split in the end.

Just to clarify, these trophies will be a permanent entity in this event and will change hands to each winner every year.

So I am not making it mandatory but I would be happy to accept small donations for the one time trophy costs but I will not say it is mandated.

I'd collect those few bucks at the event if everyone would be so kind as to contribute.

Sorry for not answering your PM Bing, I don't have as many oportunities to use the internet as I have in the past (anytime U see a post from me it's from work).

I am not sure about the ground but I do beleive there are areas with Dirt and some paved and a fire pit.

I'll inquire about the open question today and get back with the answers either today or tomorrow.

I beleive we are allowed a fire and BBQ but I beleive I need to obtain a fire permit which is free but I'll have to fill in the paperwork with the fire dept, again none of these things should present an issue but I'll get solid answers real soon.

Of course your welcome at this event and I again encourage EVERYONE to come out, it should be a real blast.

There are fire pits and there are also dirt areas to accomodate tents, in fact, I plan on pitching a tent as well and staying o/n, bbq's are also allowed.

I will need to obtain a fire permit but that is free and I can do it through the Fire dept right down the road.

This should cover your open questions, we look foward to a fun day of fishing and a fun evening to follow under the stars.

I'll remind everyone that your welcome to stay overnight at no charge for camping.

The regular lake entry and launch fee's will apply though for the days fishing.

I'll speak to the administrative staff about the availability of the west ramp for launch on that day but I wouldnt bank on that, it would be an ideal situation for us though, I may be able to make some arrangements possibly, I'll talk to them this saturday at the handicapped kids fishing event at the lagoon (insert plug here).

We plan on fishing the entire day from open to close, weigh in will be at the group campsites following the days fishing so I'd guess approx 7:30-8pm for weigh in.

To sum up the approx hours of fishing would be 6:30am to 6:45 pm.

We fish hard...no 6 hour time frame on this one....we're all in it for the long haul.

Just to be CLEAR......

REGULAR PARK HOURS APPLY TO THE FISHING ASPECTS OF THIS EVENT.

If someone deviates from this and gets caught, it will spoil it for everyone, remember this is something that we want to do every year as an annual thing, I know it may sound tempting but lets keep in honorable guys.

I have extended myself for everyones fun and my name is attached to it all, I'll ask that everyone please follow the simple rules, the day will hold plenty of action for all.

If we want to do this regularly, we need to keep it an honest and an upfront event.

Bob and I try to keep it real and low costs to all so everyone can participate and have fun.

For anyone seeking inspiration to go to this event….this may help.

Hit it up this morning for a quick shot b4 work.

Landed 13 stripers, 4 nicer models that I kept............. 4 the table, lost 2 nice models too.

Didn’t get a photo with the 2 biggest ones w/me in it as I gave my workmate the 2 biggest ones for HIS table at lunchtime b4 I took individual pics.

I did get a quick tailgate shot b4 I went into the office w all 4…

Since this is getting to be a huge event, I'd like to solicit a volunteer to weigh the fish for us.

Keep in mind, if you sign up for this task, we will need you to weigh allot of fish and it would be ideal for you to have your own digital scale.


Once again, I'll solicit anyone that has a generator and light for the festivities, I'm sure we'll make it work with lanterns but a small generator would be sweet.

I was in Gallion's today to get a sandwich for lunch. I talked to Steve and let him know that we're having Striper Fest this coming Saturday.

Steve jumped at the chance to donate to the Striper Fest raffle. He added a nice Lucky Craft Sammy and a Bomber A-Salt Popper to the pot. I was looking at this A-Salt last week thinking that I should buy it. Now I have to try and get it from the raffle.:LOL:

I'll second that, Steve is always willing to help out, he not always donates to our Striper Bowl events but he’s always eager to help out with the kids events and donates bait or sandwich items to help out all the kiddies.

There are many fish caught from shore, if you look above, you'll se my post where I landed 13 from shore b4 work last tuesday, I landed all of them in 45 minutes, you never know whats gonna go down.

One thing to remember, this event is set for everyone to have fun, that’s why we don't put any price tags on things and we don’t charge an entry fee, our objective is to get everyone out there to the lake and have a chance at catching some fish, maybe many fish and all the while hopefully developing some wide spanned conradery.

In short, the main objective at this event isn't necessarily to win, it's to have fun and catch fish : )

Shore fishing very well could be productive but you can always post up here that you would like to join someone on their boat which happens all the time.

Another option is to rent a boat which I know a couple people that haven’t signed up yet will be doing.

If your thinking about doing it ….STOP THINKING !.....JUST DO IT.

I don’t think there could be a better time of the year and the bite, it’s been going strong for a while.

Regular park entry and launch fee’s apply, if you have a pass that’s fine as well.
No additional park fees will apply.


TO ALL:

I have taken care of the group campsites.

After the days fishing….when they make us get off the lake basically, we will all head over to the group camp at the top of the hill like if you were headed to the west ramp (3 acre lot).

That gate will most likely be locked at that time since the lake is officially closed.

I will have a key to let our group in but I will not be going back down the hill to let more people in once we’re in.

So everyone please make sure you understand this !

I’ll give reasonable time after we trailer our boats but that means when you exit the lake at the main ramp-head to the west ramp directly if at all possible.

I’d say roughly 7:30pm I’ll head up to the camp after letting everyone in but please try to get there b4 that so I don’t get everyone lined up at the last minute.

Basically what I want to stress is that it isnt’time to go shopping ETC.or you’ll get left out of the event, I cannot wait for a real long time at the gate as I need to get up to the group site to get set up.
I want to be clear that I cannot come down the hill time after time for late commer’s.


Anyone wishing to go up to the campsite early is welcome to do so but you will need your pay stub for park entry to get in.


I hope this all makes sense, if everyone follows the simple guidelines it should all go very smoothly.


I obtained our fire permit yesterday.

I’ll pick up the gate key tomorrow.

Looks like everything is covered now, but I'm bringing a spare 100' cord, small fluo. light, and small table. They say God works in mysteriousl ways...hmmm. Someone stopped by my desk today and dropped off a package of about 80 heavy cardboard cafeteria style trays. This person had no idea I had a use for them, but when I saw them I knew why they were there.

You'll see Tim and I in the Yellow tandem kayak fishing like the total noobs we are. Sat is his 8th birthday, so I'm praying for a striper to bend his pole real hard and make his reel scream for help. I was pretty proud of him handlling a cat that pulled his pole under the kayak and he still hung on. Not bad composure for a 7 year old. Now he needs a striper to hook him for life with an experienice of a lifetime.

BTW. If you see us heading out and you could give us a tow to the happy fishing area that might make it so I can paddle in against the wind in the afternoon. Last time I paddled all the way down the other arm and back...man was I pooped after that. Can't do that again. Need to save enought strength to throw a 1/4 oz over the side a few times.

Looking forward to meeting up with a bunch of you guys, gals, and kids.

***Any questions regarding get together can be answered AFTER fishing when we trailer the boats in the parking lot or at the West Ramp Gates at our camp ground after we get out of the East ramp parking lot.

***A friendly reminder - It is going to be hot tomorrow and there will probably be a lot of boaters in line, as well bass guys and us. GET THERE EARLY...the line gets big and GETS BIG FAST.
