I've been skunked at SARL the past three Fridays at SARL. Could anyone tell me which are the better spots to fish at. I tried the South/Eastern corner of the big lake. And also the mid point on the Eastern lake. Nothing. Using Nightcrawlers, Chicken Liver & Mackeral. Caught a couple of tiny cats, but nothing keeper size.

Go to the back catfish lake. There is a spot back in the corner......it looks like a small walking trail....thats the spot. Trow some mac and you will do good.....the fish are only 10 to 15 yrds out. I have got limit after limit there....oh and use some garlic sent works wonders.

Welcome to the board La-Califa!

When I was there the other day for a meeting with lake management, I had a little time to walk around and saw quite a few people with fish..... that was last Friday....... More than one told me they were using shrimp..... the interesting thing is...... they were also using shrimp over at the kids pay per fish "catch pond" ..... and obviously, they want people to catch fish there............ and they were.

So...... I just wanted to share that.... and also, when you use mackeral, get FRESH mack!

Here's some people that scored a few fish recently ..... I'd try some fresh dead shrimp.

I have been hearing the Shrimp is the way to go as you all mention, exactly what type of shrimp?

Raw, Peeled, uncooked, cooked, head-on, etc. I tried Shrimp two weeks ago, it was peeled raw shrimp but it was previously frozen, also, i let it sit out for a few hours to get it all stinky which i got from another post. Any suggestion would be appreciated.

Welcome to the board!

I'd use the freshest shrimp I can find, and then fish them raw & shelled..... can't hurt to add a scent like garlic either....

Appreciate it. for the locations, I fished north large lake and then moved to small lake to the right of the shop as you come in and went up to the left on the trail that takes you around the lake. Was only there for an hour but got skunked. so my question is, Boat or Shore?? was thinking about renting a boat tomorrow to go deeper and further out from shore, which is better, any suggestions.??

I agree with you on that! That spot is great. I've used a "nightcrawler-shrimp combo" and I was on a roll. Too bad I didnt have a camera on hand.

I actually tend to have better success with live insects.

The best advice i can give is to bring as many different cat baits as possible.

Sorry for the way late reply. It's been an interesting week...
I stop by the supermarket before I go catfishing and buy a dozen pieces of raw, medium shrimp. Peeled or not, whichever is cheaper, because I take off the shell anyway. I thread the whole piece onto a #2 hook and flyline it. I do not use a scent, but I also do not smoke at all and if I'm eating something, I wash my hands with lake water before touching my bait. For all practical purposes, all shrimp you get at the market is previously frozen. (I'm sure Bristol Farms or Gelsons might have the fresh stuff, but...you get the picture.)

i've had alot of luck and hits with marshmellow/shrimp combo. its best to buy fresh, then frozen IMO. just put a lil piece of shrimp on the top and couple marshmellows on the bottom. u could even use some crave gravy or pro cure too. try any spot between the dock and the bubble whole or even la palma point has produced. i see alot of people pull out 1-2lb cats out of the catfish lake too. good luck.
