Honda 8hp Problems

I have a pre-97' 8hp Honda 4stroke motor. The recent owner sold it to me "as-is" checked compression spark etc. All was good. Then I ran it.... It only ran with partial to full Choke. When I pushed in the choke, it revved higher then shut off.... Should I just buy a New carb and filter or rebuild it? $95 for new carb ain't bad at all,,,,

Are you using fresh gas?

I'd say your carb is dirty. Clean and rebuild. Also check your float adjustment.

It wouldn't hurt to run some Seafoam through the carb either.

So when are you gonna get that Key West? Is this motor the kicker for it? LOL

Still waitin' for the loan to approve, that bank take 1-2 weeks I guess.... I got that motor for $60 on Craigslist sunday so I bet I might use it as a kicker but, it's a short shaft,and most kickers I see use a Longshaft.... lol .... I just decided to buy a new carb, $120.... The carb it has was gelled in and all gaskets and needles needed to be replace, $70 so I just bought a new one + fuel filter and some decals,,,
