Ah yeah...it was On and Crackin...
Went to El Cap yesterday for the 2nd week in a row (since they started back renting boats) after a 3 month absence.
Noticed last week while on the crappie hunt that the gills were really aggressive...but I wasn't prepared to really fish for them.
My uncle once told me...Boy, You fish for whats biting!
So I was ready this time as we brought, crawlers, mealworms, redworms, chicken liver and shiners.
We started off in the north end trolling jigs for crappies until around 9am or so when the sun was up high and bright. We caught a few nice ones but I could tell it would be hard work chasing them down. We were catching more bass anyways. So, we switched up early and set up for the gills.

Tied up to a set of trees in 18 feet of water and proceeded to catch them one and after another.
It only took about 5 - 10 sec. to see your bobber go down. In 30 minutes...the gills covered the crappies I caught (in 2 hours of fishing) earlier in the basket.

Long story short..it was wide open fishing most of the day. We tossed back about a 3rd of the gills we caught. Add to the mix the 12 or so kamikazi 12in micro bass that were released and 2 nice blue cats we caught on the drift it was a very fast long day of catching.
Maurice lost a fight with a huge cat after a 6 minute battle on 4 pound test. Could not get that joker to turn around on the drift and it finally broke him off.
Totals
100 plus gills
12 bass
5 crappies
2 blue cats

You can tell how good the day's fishing is by the amount of the snacks & drinks that make it back home...(my cooler was full) lol
If you got kids...take them out for a blast!
