View Full Version : Big Calico, backside Catalina

Fished Catalins Island last Sunday. Conditions were beutiful, 70 degree water with pretty calm seas. Primarily fished swimbaits and surface iron for some pretty good fishing.

Not a lot of current but we were still able to establish a pattern. We targeted areas with surge and boiler rocks. Had a great day on average size fish with even a few short seabass on the plastics.


Similar to freshwater bass fishing the key ingredient was putting the cast in the right spot.


Thanks to one of my best friends, Shea, for piloting piloting the boat in some skinny water and allowing met to hit the sweet spot with my Tady Iron. I hooked and landed my personal best Calico

Not a trophy by calico standards but lets just say I got the fever!!!!!

Tady C and a Calstar 850 rod Shimano Torium w/40 lb mono.

Very nice job, good to see you guys release the good size calico's. I should be there next week, hope to hook up one of those. Great report. :Cool:

Congrat's on your PB Calico. There have been some really huge toad calico's at Catalina lately. Way to go on the release!
