Got invited by my neighbor to go out on his new 21ft Trophy. He had it out a few times already but it still had a skunk stripe on it. I heard there was some good kelp paddy fishing out of Oceanside so we launched at 6am, picked up a 1/2 scoop of beat-up looking sardines and headed out towards the 209.
Found a boat working a paddy about 7 miles from the 209. Called on 72 to ask if we could slide in but no answer so we made a far drift away and watched them pull up 4 dorado in a row but no love for us. Left that one, got to the 209 and found several more paddys but most just had swarms of bait and nothing else.
Started fast trolling towards the 181 and found about 5 boats working a paddy. We could see a couple people hooked up, called again to see if we could join but again no answer, so this time we did anyway, very cautiously, and eventually hooked up once we drifted near the paddy.

We worked with the other boats for a while longer and finally I got one to bite our half dead bait.

Got one more to bite but she came off right next to the boat. The bite kida fizzled out after a while so we called it a day and headed in. Saw quite a few large whales and molas around. Very nice weather too.
