You can still see some of the trees in the canyon bottom but it only hides the destructive process that is already taking place!!!!

Some canyon bottom shots taken yesterday on my 1/4 mile hike above the house!!!!

Wow! :EyePop:
I was just thinking about you Steve to be honest, wondering what kind of crazy fires you were taming.

You always hear about how creaks around here have been decimated by fires. Hard to imagine though until you see these photos! That's terrible! I know a few creeks where something like this would and have in the past wipe the places out for sure. Some heavy damage there.

I saw the burn area on the news today and couldn't believe my eyes...
Hopefully your house is OK!

Yeah, too bad, I've enjoyed your reports. But at least the a$Sh0le/s that started all this mess will be facing murder charges. Here's to hoping that those responsible are caught, for the families of the lost fire fighters not the least.

Steve, I'm filled with sadness seeing the devastation in your backyard. But also a sense of relief, I know the fire burned to like a few hundred feet of your house. I couldn't believe it when you finally sent me a PM. Mother Nature is resilient, hopefully your pets in the streams will flourish once again... We need to get together & fish my friend. I'll see you at the surf event.

Here's to hoping that they catch this sick and twisted individual. Glad to hear that another house did not go up in smoke. Every time I go to a certain creek, I go by burned out foundations of what was someones home. Still sad every time I go by. Years have past since that fire but there is lots of signs of life coming back.
From the pictures, it looks like just the ground cover was burned and that the tree's are still in good shape. That should help the scrub come back to life there. Until the underbrush does come back I would stay away from the canyons when the weather is threatening. Looks like it would be one hell of a flash flood with nothing to stop the dirt from running off of the hillsides. The acerage of land that the fire consumed will be one heck of a runoff.

I was wondering how bad that area got hit.
Really sorry to see how bad the devastation was. :Crying:
I believe Mother Nature will take care of it though. We have to trust in that. Unfortunately it will take a while. I am very concerned about the impending winter however. It will be interesting to see the area next spring.
I'm even happier to hear your ok though. :Big Grin:

i dont think that place is out of the danger zone just yet,the coming rain will create some mudslides.but if it survives the winter ,could be nice come spring

Hey Stevo, how is it going. Long time no talk. I am saddened over the state of our forest that we spend many hours fighting to protect. This fire as you know first hand was not like any other. We all know the brush will grow again and the hills will turn green. That is nature. I am glad that the Arroyo Residences survived the fire. There are so many things gone now that we cant replace nor can mother nature and that is the saddest part. This fire had many tragic events that we will never forget and has taken a toll on all the Angeles. We will talk later. Stay safe!

The sad events to come as in Mud Flows is a real danger to all communities down stream of these once brush covered mnts. Hiking up into whitewater and mission creek cyns. the year after a major fire consumed 100s of thousands of acres 3 years ago , I was just in awe hiking these cyns. and seeing how the mud flows ripped out ALL living things [ including 50 year old trees ] . prepare yourself if your property is any where close to the cyn. bottom . Maybe an El Nino Winter . The vegitation will come back big time in like 3-4 years . [ GOOD DEER HUNTING ] maybe . // db

Hi Steve,

The forest playground you call home has been devastated , the picturs sicken me. But rest assured that and while it may never be the same; nature finds a way.

I have been thinking about you and your family for weeks, and I am relieved that you are all OK.

I am still holding a spot for you when you are ready, just let me know.

I can only imagine how you must be feeling about your back yard Steve, and all of that area for that matter.
Glad to know that you and your family are ok.

We have had four fires in the last two years here in Santa Barbara. To say I'm worried is an under statement, but, I'm hopeful that the winter storms don't come one right after the other, so the earth can stay where it was. I regret how the news casters announce the sun downers on the TV, as it's like a signal for all the pyro's to boldly go, and screw up so many people's homes and lives. In my opinion, the perfect terrorist plot, with little chance for detecting the perpetraitor. The world is getting complicated these days, and only by staying united, will we be able to give our children some of the beauty we have seen in our lives. Hope you and yours find some good in the furure. Mikey
