Charlie gave me a called and wanted to fish today. I agreed, so he picked me up early in the morning. The game plan was to fish Catalina Island, aboard the Pursuit out of 22nd St. landing. Grabbed our tickets and hopped on the boat with 15 other anglers. To my surprise it was a very lite load today.

Met up the bait boat early in the morning for some bait. Only had anchovies today.

The Tide Change out of Long Beach Sportfishing was also there waiting for bait. Saw GD on the boat and said hi.

Fished the frontside of the island today.
http://i281.photobucket.com/albums/kk234/pokerface12/IMG_0475.jpg
Made several moves throughout the day.
http://i281.photobucket.com/albums/kk234/pokerface12/IMG_0478-1.jpg
Got inspired by GD and his mad surface iron skills. I couldn't let him have all the fun.
http://i281.photobucket.com/albums/kk234/pokerface12/IMG_0480.jpg
The bonita came out and play for a bit.
http://i281.photobucket.com/albums/kk234/pokerface12/IMG_0485.jpg
Charlie hates fishing the anchovies as much as me, so he busted out the iron and was rewarded with a nice bass.
http://i281.photobucket.com/albums/kk234/pokerface12/IMG_0496.jpg
He also caught a very nice barracuda.
http://i281.photobucket.com/albums/kk234/pokerface12/IMG_0497.jpg
Made another move.
http://i281.photobucket.com/albums/kk234/pokerface12/IMG_0498.jpg
The weather was almost perfect today.
http://i281.photobucket.com/albums/kk234/pokerface12/IMG_0490.jpg
Then the big boys came out and played. John hooks a very nice fish, but couldn't stop him on 40lb. You'll get him next time. I saw this and ran for my rod. I busted out the jig stick and hooked a mackerel while reeling in the jig. I saw a huge yellow chasing the hooked mackerel on the jig, so I gave it some line. Felt the pick up and counted to 5 before I set the hook. It was game on after that. There's a high spot in the area that we fished, so I gave the fish as little line as possible. 2 minutes later I landed this beauty on 40lb test.
http://i281.photobucket.com/albums/kk234/pokerface12/IMG_0494.jpg
4 yellows were hooked today.
http://i281.photobucket.com/albums/kk234/pokerface12/IMG_0502.jpg
But I was very lucky, and was the only one that landed one today.

How much do you think this thing weigh?
All in all it was a great day to be out on the water. The calico bass played all day long, but most of them were on the smaller side. The bonita, barracuda, and yellows came out and played a for brief moment. The final fish count according to 976-tuna was 17 anglers who caught 1 Yellowtail, 90 Calico Bass, 5 Sheephead ,20 Bonito, 35 Perch, and 3 barracuda. I also took down jp and kicked down as usually, imo these guys deserved it for all their hard work today. Thanks for reading and goodluck on your next fishing adventure, Pokerface.

So you hooked a mack on the iron and dropped it back down to hook the yellow???? Awesome man!! Good job eyeing the yellow following the mack in! That yellow's head is bigger than yours and I mean in size!!

Congrats on The PB yellowtail. Very nice. hard to judge the weight on the fish, when most of the pictures with your arms extended a bit....but id say right around 27lbs.

Beautiful yellowtail....always difficult to estimate the weight of the fish when there isn't a picture showing the true perspective in relation to the angler....no criticism I am a master at making the fish look bigger. BUT if you want to truly see the size you need to take at least one picture with the fish hanging directly in front of you from some distance....it shouldn't be held out with the arms extended or pushed forward......

Yea I did. I said what's up. I got to fish with GD one of these days, so I can learned how to throw the iron a little bit better.

Sick fish must have been sick to watch that hit you jig thats how they fish in San Quintin Mexico that kind of style it pays off big thanks for the pics and report. I say 28 to 34 pounds.

So you hooked a mack on the iron and dropped it back down to hook the yellow???? Awesome man!! Good job eyeing the yellow following the mack in! That yellow's head is bigger than yours and I mean in size!!
I never dropped the jig back down, I saw the yellow chased it about 15 yrds away from the boat.

Congrats on The PB yellowtail. Very nice. hard to judge the weight on the fish, when most of the pictures with your arms extended a bit....but id say right around 27lbs.

It was a great day of fishign.

Yikes! Nice homeguard phong. Great job killing it in 2 min. Congrats on the PB YT!!!

Thanks, but killing it in 2 minutes wasn't by choice, there was shallow reef close by. If I would have given it a few more yards, he'd would have won.
