So friday, made the call to my old pal Bigbit to see if he was free to get some blood from Castaic Stripers. Needless to say, we didnt sleep friday since i had a fullworkload week, i didn't have much of my gear ready... we went to BPS/ontario earlier in the week, and i found a new stick for mr stripey- and some "new toys/lures etc" can never leave BPS w/out anything! hahahaa...
We got to Castaic and got our rental- and were in the water by 720...it was kinda mayhem watching everyone launch and more- was kinda funny...CAN'T wait til i get my boat. Ne ways we start on the troll, since we had no finder, i was game and did new runs and a few that I did we T.O. Tried callin uncle B, but he was up at his "other spot" the Sierras..So we started to the rt fork for nada the first hour...then BAM- first schoolie of the day...the first few hours were hits and misses...got into some schools and some boils..one of the boils came up maybe 10' from the nose of our boat- as our trolling gear passed the boil area..BAM....nice schoolies.. it was about 4pm, and we had bout 11 on board. It was a HOT day, and on a rental boat, almost felt like a frying pan! hahahah....jk one thing that is sweet, is when it DID get hot (not the bit, but weather lol) we simply jumped in the lake- what a way to freshen...after "cooling down" we stopped in a cove to eat...as we were we noticed at the stop "dead shad" phenomenon...saw them, and snapped some pics. Not 15 mins of eating, i saw more boils at the other side of the cove...i put my sandwhich down, andmotored there...tossed some lures, but they went back down.. we circled out, dropped the gear and BAM- I landed 2 solid 3lb schoolies-
Well time was getting near the end, and I spotted some areas that i told Bigbit i had a strong feeling would get some action by the time we had to turn in the rental-
We came up on the undisclosed spot(s) and the boils came...this was a gift from God...we spotted more boils here and there...and one that we ran up, that had the feelign of a yellowtail boil, one i've yet seen before with stripers. There must have been at least 50 schoolies mixed with some biguns...we tossed tossed and tossed..ever toss a fish, and A PISSED OFF STRIPER at that...running like wild yellows and bones but stripers. One of the best boil action i've ever had...and it was filled from the time we got there til the time we left. We left a wfo bite. The only ones to share that was the wakeboarders, boaters around us that watched us...Bigbit lost his favorite lure off a PHATTY...I had a HUGE fin following mine, but ended up being taken by a solid 4.7lbr.
-ended the day FULL LIMITS. Fish everywhere- dead shad in spots. bring your sunscreen, and keep hydrated...with FISH-lol
photos coming...passed out when we got home. What a day- hot temps, hot fishing.
