Anyone catch mackerel on the southbay piers lately thanks in advance hometown

I surf near Manhatten Beach pier a lot and have seen very few caught in the last month or so.

The best piers are the longer ones. Large mackerel seldom like to be near the shore, though they occasionally do maraud the topsmelt near-shore from time to time.


Also, mackerel dont like weak currents, this is why you rarely see them in harbors and bays, though they will enter when the current is favorable to them.

They are ridiculously easy to catch.

I live in the South Bay, and the Redondo or Hermosa Piers seem to be better than Manhattan for mackerel. You can get sardines at Manhattan though, and those actually taste pretty good if you fry them up.
