Also commonly known as Shepherds Pie, however, there is a difference. Shepherds pie is traditionally made with ground lamb, cottage pie is made with ground beef.

1 package ground beef (1-1 1/2 lbs)
1 onion
1 pack of pre-cut mushrooms
1 can beef broth
1 envelope of brown gravy
2 cloves garlic (sub garlic salt if necessary)
1/2 can of beer
4 large potatoes
Milk
Butter

Chop the potatoes and put them in a pan of water to boil.
Dry fry (i.e. "brown") the ground beef.
Chuck in the mushrooms and onions.
When the beef is no longer pink, drain off the oil/fat.

Mix the brown gravy with the beef broth. Throw in with the ground beef/mushrooms/onions. Simmer.

While that's going on, once the potatoes are soft, mash them with milk and butter.
Get a round ovenproof dish of a decent size. Lob in the meat mixture, and spread the mashed potatoes on top.
Throw in the oven at 350 degrees F for approximately 35 minutes.

Serve. Preferably with lashings of bread and butter!

If you're lucky enough, get lucky for making such an awesome dish!
