Every summer of my life i have spent the summer in cape cod Massachusetts. The summer always involves fishing. Either fishing from the shore, jetty, or a boat. The main game fish that i try to catch is the striper. At this point ill mainly focus on the boat fishing part.
The fish you catch on a boat range from 25 inches to about 60.
One of the main ways to catch stripers from a boat is called jigging. The equipment for jigging consists of a heavy duty rod and reel (i use penn rod and reals). the Reel is spooled with heavy wire line.

On the end of the wire line you hook a jig. These jigs arent your daddys LMB jigs. They range from 2-6 ounces and have a long hair skirt. Red is my favorite color striper jig.

You let the line out all the way to the backing, this is usually over 200 yards!! Takes forever to reel in just to check the jig for seaweed. The boat drives 2.5 miles an hour and the "jigger" pulls up on the rod, short quick snaps, like your setting the hook, but you do it over and over until you get a bite
A proven fish catching technique!

The shore fishing part-
every night i fish the cape cod shore line for stripers.
Usually the catch is just schoolies (small stripers) but on occasion I hook into a cow, my biggest shore striper is 40 inches. Bait fishing with Mackerel, eels, sandeels, and clams is productive but i prefer to fish with lures.
The trick to shore fishing with lures is to match the hatch, and on most occasions the "hatch" is sandeels

So most all of the lures i fish with resemble sand eels
