I was back out at Perris on Friday with Cord and his son Justin.
They are from Washington and they normally fish for smallmouth on the Columbia River. They told me that they had never caught largemouth before and that they were dying to get out on the lake here and see what the Southern California Bass fishing thing was all about..
So I met Cord and Justin at the lake at opening on friday morning and off we went..
We got to our first spot and they told me to make a couple casts to show them how to work the baits we would be throwing..
On my 1st cast with the Caloina Rig I swung on a healthy 3 1/2 lb Perris largemouth...Then I fired out a spoon and showed them how to work it...within about one mintue I swung on another fish.. this time a solid 4 lb Perris beauty.... They couldnt beleive their eyes..2 casts with two different baits and 2 nice bass in the boat...needless to say...that was all the instruction they needed...:LOL:
So I give them the rods and they start firing away..
Within a few mintues, 14 year old Justin swings and sets the hook on his 1st Largemouth bass ever. I quickly net it and it weighed 2 1/2lbs...not bad!!
He makes another cast and gets bit instantly and I net another 2 1/2 lber.
On his 3rd cast he gets bit, swings and misses....BUT I told him to continue the retrieve and about 20 ft later he gets slammed again and swings and hooks up this time.. and I net a solid 3 1/2 lber. :Big Grin: 3 bass on his first 3 casts..."This is AWESOME"..he says.. His dad still hadnt been bit, but that was about to change...
After I netted Justins 3rd bass, Cord (his dad) swings and crosses the eyes on a good one... and I net Cords first largemouth ever.. a solid 4 1/2 lber. Very Nice!!!
The bite stayed strong until 1 pm when the wind really started to pick up and the bite seemed to die..
At about 11 am they both told me that they wanted me to fish again so I started fishing. From 11am till about noon I caught 7 bass including the days biggest bass and Solid Perris Largemouth weighing a hair under 7 lbs.. :Envious::Envious::Big Grin: oooops...hahahaha.
At the end of the day the total count was..
Justin-16 bass ..his biggest was 4 lbs
Cord-14 bass..his biggest was 5 1/4 lbs (he had another that was 5 lbs even)
Me- 9 bass with the biggest being almost 7 lbs.

All of the bass were caught in 24-40 ft of water.. on plastics (split shot and carolina rig), spoons and deep water reaction baits.

Here are some pics of the day..

Sounds like you have another happy client. You definitely have a knack of finding quality Perris bass. The kids expression says it all, congrats.
