I just bought this rod http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_8012____SearchResults

I also bought the Abu Garcia 5500c reel. Would this reel be applicable for this Tiger Rod? I tried putting it on and it looks SMALL on the rod and looks retarded. Should I buy the 7000c3i instead?

What do you guys recommend for this type of rod? I am looking just to setup this rod for Halibuts, sand/calico bass, cudas, yellowtail and the occasional sea bass.

Any help is appreciated as I am just getting into salt water from fresh water.

Thanks in advance!

id go with the ugly stik inter coastal for the reel you have. they sell it at walmart bout 39.99. i had the rod paired with the daiwa coastal and killed the bass and cudas but i upgraded to the loom back bounce. now i got my ugly stick paired with the abu bcx 5600.

hey bingo,

I actually have a rod that I bought and was wondering if the new reel I bought would work, cause it looks small on this new rod. Its a 6.6 15-40lb Ugly Stik Tiger Rod.

sorry for any confusion.

so are you looking for a reel to match the rod or a rod to match the reel?

Looking for a reel to match the rod, cause the reel I bought looks small on it and I wasn't sure if it was applicable for the new rod I just bought.

if I can't use the new one, I am looking for a reel under $100 thanks

Hmm...This reel would match it up better http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_76228_151001000_151000000_151001000_151-1-0 If its over your price range then you can always go with a Penn jigmaster 500 http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_7931_151001000_151000000_151001000_151-1-0 which is what most Sportfishing landings use as their rental gear. Both are great beginner reels. I would go with the Sealine SL-X30SHA and spool it with 20#line...

If its not too late...i would suggest returning the 6'6 rod and getting the 7' instead. The extra 6" will make a difference when youre flylining and tossing jigs.

Light saltwater???
Yellows & Seabass is getting into Med gear (need more line capacity & heavier drag)..

As victor101 stated, I would go with the 7' (one piece) for flylining etc, & longer casting.....

In the $100 range for a Reel..
Lot of choices......
Hard to beat the Sealine X, 20SHA or 30SHA size for your needs...
Basic difference in 20 & 30 is line capacity..
The 20 would work fine and allow for lighter line to get the Bass, Hali, Cuda's...
I would fill it with Spectra (50#) and top it with whatever is the Soup de Juor (10# to 30#)...
With the heavier Spectra, any break off will only be the short top shot of Mono/fluoro!!!
A quick top shot line change, and you can compete with all the fish mentioned...
Go from bass in the bay or kelp to throwing iron in less then 5 min.......

As you do more fishing you can then slowly acquire more gear at will..

Check out our classified ads here, you can find some good reels to complament your rod.

"This Shimano TR-200. Costmetically: 7 Mechanically: 8 Asking: $25" is a great deal, one quick service at Shimano in Irvine and your good.

or this "Shimano Torium 14 – Only used twice. Retails for $180: Selling for $110" it might still be avialable. you cant go wrong with a Torium.
