Saw the bite was coming on out of SD so I called all my friends but nobody could make it. Decided to go solo anyway, launched out of Shelter island at 3am, got a nice scoop of sardines from EB, and cruised out to the 425, arriving at greylight.
Worked SW for a little while, saw a few good marks on the meter but no biters. Several other boats joined and were reporting the same results. Decided to move away from the pack and found a nice temp break to the east.
Had 3 lines out and all 3 go bendo. I thought for sure I would lose at least on of them being solo but they all hung on while I reeled them in one at a time!

They were only 10-12 pounders, but the first tuna to hit the deck of my boat and also the first jigstrikes on my new outriggers so I was pretty happy about that. I boxed the area and 20 minutes later I got another double jigstrike. Got them both in to finish my limit by 8:15!
Called other boats to the area, told them I had my limit already and going home. One guy answers back "radio fish" - whatever. Dont know if anybody came to the spot but they were definately hot about 4 miles SE of the 425.
Still early so I decide to hit the rockpile (only 8 miles away) to see if any yellows were home. Got to the spot, no other boats there. Slow trolled some sardines and after about 5 min. - zzzzzzzzz, hookup! Nice 20# yellow hits the deck.

Trolled some more and the Malihini pulls up and drops the hook. I trolled up to about 200yds off her port and then zzzzz - zzzzzz - double hookup! One came off but got the other in, a nice #18 yellow.
Worked the area for another couple hours but only got a few bonito. Wind came up so I decide to call it a day, 1 fish shy of my mex. limit.

Stopped in the lee of S. island to clean my fish and then to Santanas for an awesome carne asada burrito for the drive home.
