Me and my dad hopped on the pacific queen for a 1.5 day trip. It was much slower at the bluefin grounds the previous day so we were goin south to find some new tuna schools.
1st stop of the day at about 445 produced 21 albacore and 3 skipjack tuna. we had manyyyyyy farmers as some new guys didnt know how to follow their hooked fish. I got 1 on that stop.
2nd stop was at 6ish. Albacore were boiling around the boat and lots of hook ups and tangles. Ive never seen such a good crew. I dont think anyone lost a fish because of a tangle. I got another 1 and my dad got 1.
The rest of the day was very slow but we were waiting for that afternoon bite for the abbies and bluefin. At about 3 oclock we were starting to find alot of schools that just wouldnt come up to the boat. we did have a couplegood jig strikes though. I got 1 on the troll and so did my dad.
At about 630 we got a double jig strike and fish were boiling. Looking for my first bluefin i went to the bait tank and carefully selected my bait. I toss it out their and got slammed! As i hook the fish it dropped the bait. i was pissed soi start reeling in and bam fish back on. I fought the bluefin on 25lb izor first string with a 25lb seaguer floro leader. It took right about 1 hour and maybe a little longer. That fish was kicken my but on my seeker inshore ros rated at 10-25lb. haha. SOOOO much fun. When i got it to gaff i realized how big it was. 36lb bluefin gaffed and decked.
While i was in my fight. My dad got 2 bluefin on the yoyo. salas 6x jr in blue and white.
Overall it was on awesome trip. Anyone looking for a overnight through a 2.5 day should definetly look at the pacific queen. best boat ive ever been on. The captain (Bill) is a hell of a captain. He came down and hooked an abbie twice and handed it off o some of the other teens that werent sure how to dot things. Crew was unbelievably good. Mike (cook), Mike on deck, Matt on deck, Dan on deck, Chaz opn deck were all awesome. Made the slower times still alot of fun. Average abbie was 20lbs with a couple at 30lbs. All bluefin were nice size at 25lb average.
Oh and did i mention i got jackpot
