Went up to the Owens to do some bass fishing. Tossing a small bass crankbait when this bad boy hit. I didnt have a scale with me so I couldnt weigh her. Of coure after the picture was taken she was put back. Made me smile to watch her swim away.

nice fish...just fyi, if you plan on releasing a fish, don't stick your fingers all up then their gills

The picture is a little decieving, Ring finger and middle finger folded down, index finger on inside of gill plate not touching the gills. She had teeth so I couldnt lip her like a bass without shredding my thumb.

I'm sure you weren't too upset when you brought that in instead of a bass... That is a beautiful brown...

I assume you were on the Lower Owens in the Bishop area. Great looking fish.

I know you had the proper and best intention of CPR, so right on, but that really isn't a great way of holding the fish. A good way for me to hold the big ones is to form a ring out of your index finger and thumb and put it around the tail, then cradle the belly with the other hand. Much better for the fish. Very nice catch there bassman!!!

Thanks everyone! Yes she was quite the beauty and I will try and be more careful handeling trout, guess I'm just too used to bass fishing. I do know when I released her she took off and didnt look back.

WOW! Nice fish Mike.
I've been thinking about going up there with the weather being so mild.

I've caught trout on bass flies but never a crankbait. Hmmm might be worth a try during the fall spawning run. (Great...just some more junk to drag along w/me    )

Were you in the lower sloughs by chance?

Robert.

good job on the brownie, I've caught a few up there on crank baits, using lucky craft brown trout and rainbow trout colors. What were you using?

That is on heck of a bycatch. Usually on the Owens for me it is a carp.
