View Full Version : Newport harbor again

My Dad and I hit up Newport harbor this morning on the incoming tide. The action was slow (for me) as I only managed ONE spottie in about 3.5 hours. We just couldn't seem to get the drifts we wanted, but my old man took it in stride and schooled me catching 4 or 5 nice spotties and some micro sand bass. It was an overcast morning and the fog burnt off right as we were leaving around 12:30. All fish were caught on 3 inch big hammers and released safely.

P.S. the reason I wasnt to frustrated about the lack of catching was this past week I was visiting some friends up in tahoe. One of the mornings when everyone slept in I hiked up to one of the local lakes and I C&Red about 40 (thats right 40) like the one you see in the last picture. So it was all good.

nice job on the spots bro. i think i seen you guys out there this morning. i was at the M street dock around 930-10am. pm me what colors and lb line ur using. i mostly fish inbetween the houses and such. just starting to get into using the bighammers.

I didn't really read your report at first so I couldn't figure out how a trout got thrown in there. Sucks about the slow day in the harbor...

I can see about 1000 lurkers now fishing down in NPH using power bait and 2 lb trying to catch trout now...:ROFL:

While you are having fun with my NPH pets I get to spend another weekend getting my wife through her recovery!!! Whoo is me!!!!

Great job and glad to see someone is having fun with the spotties!!!!!!

40 in a day sounds like a good day. Yup thats why its called fishing not catching right.
