well, for my first weekend after graduating, the family took a trip up to morro bay, which meant one thing, rockfish up the yin-yang. my dad and i decided to go out on the 8-2 boat out of virg's...the admiral...this boat was enormous, i think it was lik a 90-100 footer. We get on board and the captain announces that there was a gail warning so don't throw any fish back in case we got blown off early. we go out prety close so i was happy there wasn't a long run time. while everyone is rigging up with feathers, i put on a dropper loop with a whole squid, no more than 10 seconds on the bottom, hookup.

my dad just kept getting little starrys and saw me nail about 3 reds the same size so he switched and got the only barber pole on the boat

then the deckhand decided to cut up the rest of the squid, no more big fish for us until my dad lost a humongous red on a live sand dab, it broke off and we saw if float to the surface about 30 yards out, had to be about 10 pounds. in the end, the gail winds didnt kick up and the boat had 2 buckets of doner fish to deal with. well, since i said i got a new digi cam, i'll just show off a montage of pictures i took

now to newport
stayed in a family friends beach rental house because the tenants cancelled, 3 free days in a pretty nice house with my gf, her mom and baby brother. not only that but the fishing was rediculous. sandcrab beds everywhere, all the perch you could want...and a few surprises, like an opal eye a few feet from the breakers

and my first ever legal halibut, i'd estimate at about 24", i had no way to measure, caught on a kroc.

end total for the trip between us:

too many bsps
3 wsps
2 beans
about 10 yfc's
1 opal eye
1 halibut

also, went down to the pier and saw these things people called zebra perch, they looked like halfmoon but had black and white zebra stripes, anyone seen them before?

Isn't it awesome up there!? PM me with your contact info and I will call you whenever I am up there. Maybe we could go around to some of my hotspots up there to fish F/W & S/W.

I was just up there too, possibly when you were. I was planning on going out on the Admiral but wimped out due to the weather forecast. Awesome mountain biking up there, I spent 3 days doing that instead. Cal poly has at least 2 ponds with LMB in them check those out when you can.
