I took my little 15ft aluminum boat “Red Drum” out into the Santa Monica Bay for some Bass and Critter fishing with Gabriel “GET-EM”.

Started the day catching some Calico Bass, then I hooked a bigger drag-pulling Bass, which turned out to be my 2nd largest Sand Bass that I’ve ever caught, a fat and chunky 9 pound 14 ounces.

Also, caught quite a few Sheephead throughout the day.

Plus, four of these Triggerfish.

The highlight of the day was when we were treated to an aerial show from a big pot-bellied 8+ foot long Great White Shark that breached about 5 feet out of the water, within 50 feet of the boat. The big Shark made a huge splash and left us speechless in amazement for a couple seconds. It was so surreal that I thought I was watching the Discovery Channel. Gabriel and I were both awe struck at the power and size of the fish, glad I was in the boat and not in the water. You just never know what you might see out on the big pond. Definitely more sightings of Mr. and Mrs. GW, thanks to the kill moratorium that has been in effect for many years for these apex predators.

Ended the day catching Calico Bass, Sand Bass, Sheephead, Triggerfish, Brown Rockfish, Sculpin, Cabezon, Rubberlip Sea Perch, Buttermouth Perch, Rock Wrasse and Senoritas.

Had a great time catching a bunch of different species in the tin boat and I can’t wait to get back out on the water. HOOK-UP!!

Till next tide

That sandie is a pig. So the shark actually jumped out of the water like you see on TV??? That would of been trippy...

Almost a 10 lb pig on the big sandie. Nice fish and nice pict on the assortment of critters. GW jumping like at Discovery is a heck of a site and scary as heck.

I've caught and released quite a few Blue and Mako Sharks over the last 15 years while Sharkfishing, so I know what they look like, and I'm positive what I saw was a bonafide Great White Shark.

Great work out there.
Man a Great White, I can only dream of catching one some day.
I along with my Godfather landed a nice 7 1/2' Mako when I was 15.

. . .first of all, that was a whale of. . .er, I mean great white of a report. . .you guys literally wailed on the local fishes. . .and that sand bass--he's fat enough to become a sumo wrestler. . .also, this is the kind of report that revs my "fishing engines". . .unfortunately I can't fish right now--I'm on medical leave with a severe back problem. . .your report, however, helps to remind me that nothing lasts forever--except for the Lakers. . .
