I was getting ready to head to Samo when my bro knocks on the door to see if I want to go back to Cabrillo. OK...the wind is blowing at samo anyway. So we get to Cabrillo and the wind is blowing here too...Oh well, were here...I fished my surf spot and my bro headed to the pier.

The wind wouldnt let me work the dropshot so i threw out the old school(rusty croc) and snagged this Halibut.

around 19" almost there...oh well... That was it. I could of sworn i got a couple more bites but nothing else stuck. Joined my bro on the pier til it got too cold...which didnt take long.

Nice report Vic! Never seen a flattie caught on a krocodile. What kind of rod and reel was the guy who caught the legal using?

Thanks Jimmy! hopefully when i grow up I can be a world renowned fisherman as yourself LOL
He was using a Gloomis rod and I think a corvalous reel...

Thanks for the report! i dont live too far from cabrillo, im thinking about hitting it up soon.

I had a question though- when you throw krocodiles in the surf, whats your retrieve like? Is it slow or fast or do you jig it along?

...In the surf i let it sink to the bottom and work a constant slow/medium retrieve.

Im just throwing this out there for anybody reading this...make sure you have a fishing license on you. The DFG has been on patrol in the area and WILL hand out tickets. A license is not needed on the pier...but If you are planning on fishing the surf or jetty...make sure to have it on you.

I feel the same way...Everything i catch from a pier/surf/jetty/dock/shore is catch and release.
