havent posted in a while....fishing has beeen excellent this year so far........i got too lazy to post earlier reports in the year...

So I saw those new Shimano Tallicas in stores early and they looked pretty nice. I bought two of them, the Tallica 8 and the Tallica 10. The 8 is the size fo the Trinidad 12, and the 10 is the size of the Trinidad 14. I was very curious to see how it felt on a fish.....so went out to the 425 in search of tuna but none to be found. Weather was sloppy out there....really sloppy. doable but not enjoyable....went back to to the coronados and it was on like donkey Kong.

everyone was hooking up, but if you knew what you were doing, you would get some more.

Well the reel performed better than i had imagined. It definetly had the torque that the trinidad has been lacking. Ive used accurates too, and i might lean on accurate for just a bit more torque but it DOES NOT compare to how smooth the Tallica is. The casting, drag, and power was just so buttery smooth. Very impressed with them. planning on picking up all of them. the two speed was awesome! grant it, you dont need it, but it was nice...The yellows had no chance, brought in yellows faster, cast again, and boom on again....ended the day with 14 yellows and head back at noonish.

Lots of radio fish. but 425 to the 101 was slow....... here are the pics...

sorry if too many pics for some.

Wow! You guys killed them. Was this all caught at the coronado islands.

Fished on the party boats out of san diego in that area, could never catch any. Gotta give it another try one of these days.

Now here's the question. Are they better than Accurates since at this price point, that's what they're targeting.

Hey man way to go. I fished with you on the big game 90. I was the kid with the fish dope shirt. You still kick *** out there.

You know, I debated that with my friend for awhile. He has all accurates...

Im no expert by anymeans, but i have used a wide array of reels; including accurates. But to answer your question, I personnally think they are better than accurates in 2 of 3 catagories. my catagories would be overall smoothness, drag smoothness, and torque. I think the torque on accurates a tad better, but they cant touch the smoothnes of shimanos gearing and drag.

If you every get a chance to play with accurates, they are some what "noisy" but thats just how they are made with the gears the way they are. The shimanos is just so silky smooth....although when you are playing with it in a store it feels tight, but when your on a fish.....its incredible.

Thanks. I have no doubt that these reels are sick as hell, but I think that Shimano is targeting the wrong crowd with this reel. Daiwa did the smart thing with LD's and 2-SD's targeting the Avet crowds, but Shimano, playing catchup, decided to go for the big dogs with this.

Well, I will just have to try them out before further assumptions. Back to the thread.

Oh BTW, what happenned to your Trinidad DC's? Interested in selling?:Envious:

Better? Don't really know, haven't really put mine through a tough test. I used a Talica 10 on a 2-day recently and pulled on some 25-30 lb albies and the reel performed just fine. Compared to the Accu's I own, the B2-870 and B2-665, the Talica's fit and finish compare favorably. Drags are smooth and the handle binding at higher drag pressures is minimal. I hope to use the 10 in October on a 7-day, so I should have more info then.
