I called up two of my friends to see if they were down to take a boat since i didnt have much of a birthday celebration i needed to do something for it!
Anyways we found that a twilight would fit our schedules the best.... i got the tickets at around 6 and was happy to see a light crowd (ended up being 21 anglers) but i was discouraged by hearing the wind had really kicked up and the bite had basically shut down out in the flats.
Well i figured i wasnt gonna let that get me down and was just going to focus on having a good time.
Our first stop saw a few sandies hit the deck right off the bat.. I managed a shorty before we got blown off the spot (thanks to the 10-20 knot winds which made us reposition 4 times).
The bite kinda shut off for me with my setup after the first fish... I was fishing my penn 500 with #30 line on a reverse dropper loop, and figuring most others were using similar rigs i decided i needed to change my approach... I broke out my 12 pound baitcasting, set up a 2 oz carolina rig with a 10 pound leader and a small circle hook (for the small chovies we were using). Boy was that a smart change, every drop was a hit or a fish!
I ended up with 7 keepers (some of which barely measured up)
And my other friends managed to put a few in the sacks as well.

my total
All in all i enjoyed the trip alot, its been years since ive taken this boat out (let alone any open party boat) but the crew was really helpful and the captain really worked hard for putting us on the fish.. The only trick was to scale down to that light line!
Tight lines to all... I am leaving for a week long Bishop trip today so i look forward to posting again soon!
