Since you are going out of Helgren's, stop at JP's tackle in Vista. The guys in there know the Helgren's bite really well and will set you up to match it.

I stay with my sister in Carlsbad when I fish in the SD area and it's the stop I make sure to make. They are off the 78 freeway on Hacienda.

Bring a hat, polarized sunglasses, sunblock, and if you can a good pair of deck boots (or even rain/snowboots) that have good traction. It's no fun slipping and falling on wet decks! Also remember to dress in layers.
If you can, bring at least a couple different setups with different test lb.

Most importantly: HAVE FUN and DON'T DIE! :D
