We got down to the landing early for a 6am departure out of King Harbor. Our crew today consisted of Captain Steven Konrady, Derrick in the galley, and Morgon, John, and Greg on deck. We rolled off the dock with 26 anglers. With the flats going off in the last week, Steven wanted to go down and try it with the great bait that we had. Along with bait set-ups, we also got rigged up with plastics. We then got situated for a long drive down the line. We finally got down and met the fleet...

Tons of boats were there from San Pedro to Dana Point, and all were on the bite. We made a set, and started to catch fish right away. Some people got bit on plastics, but they really wanted the light slider and an anchovy. Those fishing the bow with a jig got tons of barracuda, and those fishing bait also caught barracuda, but the sand bass bite increased. It was fun with that light slider. You never knew what you would hook; with the sand bass, it would usually take you a while to get bit by them, as they were mostly close towards the bottom, except for a few nice ones. The barracuda were typical flats size, as we had fish to 9 pounds. Some nicer sand bass also came over. The kids on board had a blast bringing in the log barracuda and nice grumpies. It was also fun watching some people hook into some monster sand bass, as those things can really pull! After a while, the bite slowed, so we moved north to find another batch of fish.

The next stop produced mostly sand bass. We got sand bass up to 6 pounds at this spot, again, most taken on the slider with an anchovy. The fish just weren't eager to chew the plastic today. Tradition regular Bill Mozingo, however, fished the plastic all day, and ended up with 12 sand bass and 4 barracuda. That shows commitment (JapanRon commitment). With just about limits of bass and 135 barracuda, we headed back home. Jackpot went to a big barracuda, which was about 9 pounds. Make our Tradition your Tradition, bring the whole family and fish!! Great times, great fishing!!

Hi JackpotJimmy,

Now's the time to hit the Flats that's for sure. No Oceanside or Ventura boats out there as yet I guess?! :) As always, great report and pics of the fish-catchers. Maaan ... I wish the Barracuda would go away .. I caught my limit .... two or three for the season ! ha ha ha

Great to know someone else is committed to the plastics ONLY .... no stinkin' bait... no nothin' routine !

Thanks for the report, don't blame the Tradition for hitting the Bass.

Have they started a photo album on the boat yet .... you might want to do one for them.

What a great report,
Nice pictures and a good read. Obviously you had a great time and that comes through in the report. I gotta get out there before they disappear.
