Went on 2 day charter aboard the Apollo from Fishermans Landing. Traveled all night and started trolling about 530am. We were about 90 miles from the point. The captain told us that the albacore vanished over the pass few days so we would be looking for kelp patties. About 630 we hit a kelp patty and was loaded with yellow tails about 15lbs to 25lbs fish and a few dodos. It was the same thing the rest of the day. Fish count for the first day was 78 yellowtails and 36 dodos. Jackpot was taken by my brother Mark a long fat yellowtail about 32lbs.
The captain told us that we were going to move over night about 30 miles west were a few code boats got into kelp patties with 100 fish stops. Sunday morning a few guys were fishing deep with sardines at about gray light a rod went off and after a shot 15 minute battle a 40lb bluefin was on the deck. We started looking for kelp patties and the first one had a load of fish on it yellowtails and dodos. We put about 30 fish on the boat. Hit lots of kelp patties some with no fish at all and some with a few fish. 1100AM we started heading home a 10 hour boat ride home.
Our total fish count for 18 guys 92 yellowtails, 38 dorados and 1 bluefin
