Question for you seasoned tubers....im really lagging on gettin the tube setup complete. My tube should be here sometime this week and I really just wanna get that thing in the water and test it out....especially since its been so darn hot at the lakes on the shore. Now how would my Viper bobdyboard fins hold up say if the winds come up in the afternoon at the Wood for example? My tube is a caddis navigator VI.

buy yourself a pair of hotspot fins,if you desire performance & comfort. i used my vipers when i first started float tubing because i thought a fin was a fin, & the vipers worked good for bodyboarding so why wouldn't they work for float tubing, different ballgame, take it from me i've used 4 types of fins, the hotspots are incredible. i fished a number of lakes big & small, there almost effortless. my fins have very little wear & tear on them after 3yrs.

I used bodyboard fins before as well. They were stiff and hurt the top of my feet. I don't believe they're designed to be used with the top facing up.

If you don't want to spend a lot on fins, you can always get some for anywhere from $15 to $25. They get the job done.

Ok here is my :2cents: !!!!!

I have used all types of fins to tube......and what I have found I like is the pair of surge fins I got for under $20!!!!! If you feel you need to spend lots of $$$$ for fins you might consider these over the hotspots!!!!

Hell of alot cheaper!!!!!!!! about $60 compaired to $80 for htspots!!!

Yeah everyone raves about how good hotspots are cause they are so comfy and made by a tuber............BS...so what they float!!!!! there are alot of fins on the market that float and cost a hell of alot less!!!!

All you need to do is find a style of fins that fit you well and are comfortable to you.....I have several sets of fins in different styles that I can let you test kick.....I might be able to even get my buddies hotspots for you to try and compair......just an idea.

I vote for the HotSpots...They help me do some 15 hour tube sessions...

I also saw FatAlbert(owner/maker) pass out a dozen or so pairs of fins to FNN members at Irvine lake...Way cool thing to do!!!

My first time out tubing some 65 year old barney was seriously out kicking me...I asked him his secret..."It's all about the HotSpots" he said....I agree
100%

They float too...

ps - I have also heard good thing about "Force Fins"...However, they are close to $140 and don't float

Reckless - dude just spend the extra buck and go with the hotspots. You cant go wrong with these, why experiment with other fins and waste money.........when you can just buy the hotspots and be done with it. And besides, the hotspots get you on fish!

Thanks for all the quality replys.....looks like hotspots are the way to go. Gonna do some research though and check out those us divers. When I get my tube I have to do some fishing with you guys. I got a bunch of "tubeable" local spots that I want to try.

I wanna catch some of these in the tube instead of on the skiff or shore....

Ok I got the Hotspots....gave em a test run at Bernasconi in Perris, but I found myself switching back to my vipers at sail cove and never going back. I think im too use to a lightweight fin from all the years bodyboarding.. The hotspots seemed bulky and required more to get them going, while the vipers provided quick and steady bursts but with more kicking involved. Maybe its just the comfort of the vipers, idk. I might have to give those shredders a try, they look a bit more compact and lightweight than the hotspots. The one thing I really loved about the hotspots was the camo rubber, as lame as that sounds!

You might want to try "Force Fins" before Hotspots were all the rage, Force Fins were the ones to get... I love them. Only problem - they don't float - so you'll want to buy leashes for them too.

"Force Fins" are really nice quality fins but very very expensive!!!!! The US Divers shredder FTF fins are still alot cheaper and made for tubin!!!!

I guess the only thing that really matters is if they fit into your budget and they are confortable for you to use!!!!!
