Ghetto Family Twilight N SUN 7 27 09

Good evening people,

After debating for about an hour in the morning on either taking my daughter out on the a.m. ½ Day Icon, or taking the Native Sun twilight out, so that my wife, my brother in law, and my son could also go, I decided on the latter, Native Sun twilight.

We arrived at the landing at around 6:00 pm, along with about 30 other passengers standing by. I got our tickets, and we all boarded the boat at 6:20, and left promptly at 6:30 pm. This was an unusually heavy load for a Monday, so I was a little irritated, considering that I thought we would have a lighter load, we ended up with 41 people.

Crew tonight was Captain Kevin, Jason and Marcus on deck, and Betty in the galley. Kevin made his safety speech, along with the plans for the evening. He informed us that we would be heading down to The Flats to fish Sand Bass and Barracuda, and recommended tackle for the evening. I did not even bring any rods to fish with tonight, I wanted to make sure that my wife and daughter were taken care of, and for them to have a great time. So I set up my daughters rod with a dropper loop, and a #2 hook, and my wife and I set up her 3 rods, an iron on the 25, a dropper loop on the 15, and a plastic on the 12. My son and brother in law also set their gear up, same ways, and we got ready for our ride down to HB.

I was very stressed about the weather for this evening, mainly because I was concerened that my daughter might get seasick, it has been awhile since she has been on a boat. As we left the harbor, I had a sigh of relief. Weather was pretty nice. So we all just sit back, talked, and enjoyed the ride.

We arrived at the spot about 45 minutes later, Kevin metered some fish, and we dropped the anchor. At first, it was really slow, but I was not concerned, because I knew that most times it takes awhile for the fish to build under the boat and start biting. After about an hour or so, we started to pick on or two here and there, and then eventually, it went very close to WFO.

My son was hot stick on the cuda, he ended up landing his limit, plus a few bass, on a mint green 544. He had jackpot sewed up most of the night, until my lil girl decided that she wasn’t going to let her big brother beat her, and got one comparable to his ( I knew hers was bigger, bit I wasn’t going to say anything). My daughter caught her first ever barracuda on this trip, along with two more cuda, and her limit of sand bass. I was so proud of her, she stuck on that rail ALL night and fished. My wife and I thought for sure she would be done around 10pm, but not Britney, she stayed at the rail, and outfished most adults on the trip. My wife finally got to use her new custom wrapped MOON rods, and loved them, and had a great time! She ended up with a limit of bass, including one pushing 4 lbs. My brother in law also slayed the bass, and had a fat limit by the end of the night. On a side note, my daughter used to say as we were fishing, and we saw a seal, “Awww..how cute Daddy! Look at the seal,” then wonder why I made the comments that I had made after she said that ( I am sure most of you know how I feel about seals). Well, that all changed when she had a nice cuda up to color, and a seal came up and grabbed it and broke her off. She looked at me, and said, “ Ok Daddy, now I know why you hate STUPID SEALS!!”…..lmao…that was one of my highlights of the evening.

My girls and son totally owned tonight, I am proud....

When my dad first took me out on a party boat, there was a WFO sand bass bite down off of San Onofre, needless to say, I was hooked. Nice job once again Steve!
