Can anyone tell me what type of fish this is?
I was getting these tiny bites constantly and couldn't hook them. I thought it was baby mackerel. So I put on one of my tiny trout treble hooks with a small piece of squid. After them stealing my bait about 15 times I finally managed to hook one and was surprised to not find a mackerel on my hook. They have tiny mouths.

It's a Senorita Wrasse. Nice catch, they aren't too common on piers. Where you were has a few other species not normally associated with piers either.

Right on, thanks for the ID. It's funny, "wrasse" kept popping into my head but for some reason I thought a wrasse was like an eel. Although in terms of body shape it kind of is.
Yep you're right about the species  Not gonna elaborate on that though.

kind of a odd fish, thats what I like about ocean fishing thiers all types out thier. I'am not blaming you but that cigarette butt looks like it could have set that wood pier a blaze. People should be careful with that.

You should have thrown that sucker back out on a hook. Towards the rocks and kelp. Calicos love senoritas.
